Benefits Of Rooting The OE

I'm pretty new to rooting, rooted my OV and loved it with a custom rom, but without a rom, could someone explain what/how makes a rooted OE Vs a none rooted OE better? And specifically how much better?

Its better because it gives you back control of the hardware you paid for. The stock configuration is setup with lots of things you can't touch simply because some big companies want to keep making money off you.

They make it so you can't delete the proprietary bloatware on the chance that you might buy some songs from their music store. They block you from wireless tethering so you'll have to use their software for it and they can charge you. They have that obnoxious startup animation and sound to advertise to everybody around that you are using an LG phone when they hear yours booting up.

There's also adblock. You need root access to edit the hosts file, which is a pretty effective way of avoiding ads.

And let's say that there is an update released that bricks your phone, or some app from the Market borks your phone altogether. Provided you have root access, you can create a backup of your device - all of your apps AND data - that can be moved to an external SD card. When you get the replacement phone, all you have to do is insert the external SD card and, after gaining root access on the new device, restore all of your backed up apps and data without a hitch. Without root, this isn't an option - you could SYNC everything, but that's less helpful, causes you to have to jump through more hoops than that's worth, and generally leads to a much more complicated mess than it has to be.

Rooting is glorious. It's akin to being the Admin of your own computer, versus having someone else you don't know be the Admin of your computer, with you being a limited user, only able to do what they allow you to do, with no input on your part as to what happens or what you're allowed to do. Which is like being in jail, versus being the jailer.

That was simply an amazing explanation. Thanks to both of your help. As soon as everything is worked out with the new update, I will root ASAP.

Benefits:

1. Increased battery life. Removing many applications that come as stock can be removed that run constantly and eat battery power.

2. Customization that suits your needs.

3. Custom Recovery that gives you power over restoration, upgrades, customization and more. (Which we do not have yet.)

4. Roms (Which we do not have yet.) created by a vast community of developers that enrich user experience and lets face it,put the stock install to shame.

Small list, but a very important one for users looking to take control of something they own. Not their phone company or manufacturer. Not saying that all stock software from manufacturer or phone company is bad. I find My Account useful for what it does. And choose to keep it. So no,not all of it is bad. But most of it is. And thats the point of root. If given control. I would remove much of it. Root gives me that power. Which I should have anyway. But I understand the reasoning behind why it isnt given. Many users are novice at best and would totally bork their device by uninstalling things meant for device operation. Root controls not given prevent this. But root is something that should be an option for a customer to select. With a nice prompt warning upon selection explaining what it is to have root and that the company nor manufacturer can be held responsible damages incurred after root permissions are given. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE???? lol...
