disableing auto ota update samsung transform ultra

THIS IS FOR SAMSUNG ULTRA FROM BOOST MOBILE IF YOUR ON ANY OTHER PHONE OR COMPANY DO NOT TRY THIS so the transform ultra update was getting on my nerves i didn't want to update so i came here looking for answers and couldnt find any for the ultra

i did find this
Code:
 http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/165681-ota-notification-stopota-zip-bb0-4-a.html

altho that is for the droid and not Samsung ultra transform

in order for this to work you must be on GINGERBREAD.EG29

and android version 2.3.4

requires root access

you need a file explorer i suggest ES File Explorer (free in android market)
navigate to /system

press and hold build.prop copy to sd card rename that file build.prop.bak(for a backup so you can upgrade later if so desired )
go back to /system open build.prop in a text editor and copy and paste the following

Code:

So I tried this out since my phone was still downloading the update, but not notifying me of it after the changes I made in the other thread. I noticed by copying and pasting this entire build prop it was reporting my phone as running Android 2.3.6 in the setting, about phone, and in various apps like AnTuTu. I read the Droid phone link you posted above and did some experimenting and figured out only the following 2 lines need to be changed:

change:
ro.build.description=SPH-M930BST-user 2.3.4 GINGERBREAD EG29 release-keys
to:
ro.build.description=SPH-M930BST-user 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD FF27 release-keys

and change:
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/SPH-M930BST/SPH-M930BST:2.3.4/GINGERBREAD/EG29:user/release-keys
to:
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/SPH-M930BST/SPH-M930BST:2.3.6/GINGERBREAD/FF27:user/release-keys

Thanks for posting that build.prop. I would have never figured this out without that.

I used the build prop method, well before this post and it did work. But before I learned that (after sweating much bullets), I used ROM Toolbox to simply freeze part of the Google Services Framework. Which also worked.

If this helped in some small way, don't forget the thanks button.
