So... whats the word about the VZW S3 "developer" edition phone that was talked about over a month ago? Or was that just a lead on by VZW to stop returns for their bootloader locking stunt?

No new news on the DE GS3. However, there are a lot of talented folks working on the bootloader at xda. Some progress has been made but still a ways to go.

Not sure if this matters anymore or not. I am seriously thinking about just leaving verizon. Their phone lineup is terrible. Service is horrid in my area. The last good phone I had was the Droid X. The rest of the devices I have had sucked. The Droid (original slider) it had service issues. I am starting to suspect its a weak area for verizon where I live and work.

The Gnex, I am afraid to say, has got to be the worst phone I have ever had, or a close runner up. The battery drains sitting in the house doing nothing at times!

I am seriously thinking about going up to AT&T and getting an S3 and porting my number over thus ending my relationship with verizon. While I am at it, I can toss the blasted network extender that don't seem to be helping matters either.

I have thought about going back to AT&T as well. However, I can't seriously consider this until ATT has LTE in Denver.

Never thought I'd hear this from a Gnex watering holer. Thought this phone was like a "God" over there.

I honestly don't think their HSPA+ speeds are too bad. I get usually 2-3mbps download on average, but sometimes I have seen past 8mbps!

In retrospect, I have seen about 28mbps and once, about 31mbps on the nexus, but the funny part was, this was at the AT&T store when I got my moms phone. Mostly its like 5mbps on average, but the flimsy radio in the nexus I am unsure if I am going to get a stable connection or not. 3G is terrible too. Barely get 1mbps download

On a slow day I pull ~25mbs down... I posted a test early in this thread that I pulled 47mbs down. Can't go back to 3g after that.

Just ran another test:

As former Gnex'er let me clarify:

Best device (hacking, roms, apps) I've ever owned
Worst phone (phone calls - data connectivity)

Absolutely agreed!

-------

I am sitting here seriously thinking about getting an S3 today. I am very nervous about getting it on verizon. Not because the hacking issue, but because the radio issue and other issues I have had. The HOX I got does a great job at work. It held its own while storm chasing, far better then the razr maxx and gnex have done. Its got to be my area. When my sister was using the bionic (which, if it was released when it was supposed to be, would have been cutting edge) it had the signal flip flop issue too.

I am debating between a 2 year contract, or just pay for the device up front.

You have 14 days to return it. So give it a shot, what do you have to lose ?

My GS3 has been much better for phone calls than my Gnex. I've experienced 0 oneway audios with the GS3. In marginal signal areas it has performed better, in weak signal areas about the same (can't fix a weak signal).

The other thing that has held me back from ATT is past experience. I used to walk around in downtown Denver and randomly drop calls on my ATT Iphone 3g which prompted me to go to VZW. I guess the grass isn't always greener:rolleyes:

I'd stay w/ Verizon ( better network ) & get the S3 ( doesn't have the radio issues of the Gnex ).

Not sure if you read my post about the GSM equipment that verizon is using on their CDMA 2000 network.... really kind of irks me. That, and based on my previous experience and the fact that I am on the fringe 4g area, not sure if VZW is the best choice.

I got 14 days to find out, I guess.

Either way, I terminate my contract. Its up in 3 months anyway.

Oh, and an AT&T device would go right on the family plan and when the share plans hit, I suspect it will be cheaper then what I am paying verizon right now.

Doing some research right now. Full price on verizon 16gig: 600 bucks. AT&T 16gig: 550. No brainer there. I pay full price either way so...

Also I am still paying over 150 for the nexus (unlimited data, unlimited tethering) plus a bunch of minutes I don't use, like 900. Far better to consolidate everything.

I may have to pay AT&T to port my number over, I think its 35 bucks because its not a new number. Need to chat with them first, though. Time to find my verizon (divorce) papers :D

If you go with a ATT GS3 please post your thoughts.. I'd love to know for future decisions.

I can tell you right now, the HOX does a helluva lot better then the nexus does in the same areas, the VIA technologies chip in the nexus sees to that. On chrome there has been a couple times I have seen the dreaded load error on chrome, forgot what it said. And once the network just went away, but came back after a reboot. Not sure if this is a HOX issue or not. The device did well when I needed it most (storm chasing), however. Though it was slow getting radar updates in a few areas, but I was about 70 miles from Denver out east in some small little, barely on the map, town. It went to edge.

My sister has a AT&T S3. She really likes it. She has told me she had seen a load error a couple times too. I think she uses the default browser.

I do suspect this is normal for any device.

The cramped storage on the One X kind of irks me. I think I got about 8 gigs left or less and have not even started to tinker with the device. I shoot a lot of photos. No HD video yet due to cramped space. TWRP seems to eat up a lot for its backups.

I'll start working on your eulogy for the Gnex watering hole. :goodnight:
