Root Switching betweem roms prevail

I am very new to rooting and all that it consists of. I have the Samsung Prevail, I have been using CTMod 3.68, I liked it but there are just some small things that I find irritating. I would like to try another rom, but I have 2 questions about the process. Which ones are best? And I started off with CTMod, meaning as soon as I rooted, I put it on, if I do change to another rom, is there any different part of the process using CWM? or do I need to use Odin? I get someof it but it's my lack of knowledge that is getting me with this one. Thanks yall.
 
Most/all the roms here have installation instructions... You do not use Odin to install them.

You install (called 'flashing') them via cwm the exact way you did ctmod.

Select:
"install zip from sdcard"
"Choose zip from sdcard"
Select the ROM you dl'd
"yes"

Press back button
Select "Reboot system now"
 
In my exp, CTMod is by far the best... JOYOS was ok, but I had issues with ending calls... CM9 is nice... If it had a working cam, I'd prob use it daily.. Mokee is ok, but still has a few bugs... CTmod is the only 1 Ive found suitable as a daily driver....
 
Why does it seen like everyone throws cm7 under the bus? (or not mention it at all) It's been my daily since the froyo days. I try all the new roms, new versions of old Roms, etc. But somehow always end up back on cm7. I don't know why it never changed to rc1 status. The ONLY thing 'missing' is receiving mms while connected to wifi... And it had a simple solution: turn off wifi for the 8 seconds it takes to download.
 
I havent messed with CM7 since I flashed a precedent (with the precedent version) and screwed up my girls phone... After running it for a cpl weeks, she was getting force closes on everything, inc phone calls.....

I had actually wanted to get CM7 but I'm not exactly sure what MMS are. Right now, I can't send any picture messages unless I am connected to wifi. Would that be a problem? Kristopher5823 actually made me a theme, he said he wasn't done with it yet, do you think it would work with CM7?

Should I do the backup in CWM or just on my computer in a folder? I'm sorry for all the questions, it's my damn personality, Once I figure something out I end up feeling determined to learn every aspect of it. Like, I learned how to drive a manual transmission, so now I'd rather have one simply because it kinda keeps you up on your game. Lol But my left knee is deteriorating and pops and hurts daily, but I won't drive an automatic. Yall and this forum has been an amazing tool.

In CWM, MAKE A BACKUP or your current setup... then...
WIPE A FEW TIMES.... then
install whatever new ROM you decided on....

CM7 is one of my favorites... Right now i'm runnin Mokee..

It will work if it's designed for cm7, otherwise no. It will work with the ROM it was designed to work with.

mms= multi media message (picture message)

I wish I knew some more tweaks for the performance, I think it's just my apps and I haven't gotten the app for the speed of the sd card yet. I don't have too much of a purpose for my phone other than to entertain me at home and when I'm sitting in the car rider line at my daughter's school. I think just for now I am going to keep an eye out on the other roms, I like the JoyMod, that'll prob be next. Sorry for the sporadic questions, but what does the Terminal Emulator do? And is there something epic I can do on my phone now? After I rooted it, I actually told my best friend "I have all this power available now, and I have no clue what to do to make use of it" :mad: Lol

after you make the cwm backup then you backup eveything to pc
