Root [Sprint/Cricket] Questions about rooting

Okay, I'm not new to rooting as I've stated in an older post because I used to own the OGEvo and was a flash-o-holic.

Anyway, I have rooted my S3 before but I don't want a custom recovery and also don't want the Samsung updates to keep popping up on my phone forcing me to install and then unrooting my phone. That's the main difference between my old HTC and my new Samsung. You could just uncheck the update notification and you would never get it again. That's not the case for the S3. It's intrusive and will not go away. So I unrooted and my phone is now just stock, which is great don't get me wrong.

The main reason why I want to root is for Titanium Backup and an ad-blocking app. That's it. For the OGEvo it was for a smaller custom ROM, screenshot functionality, uc/oc custom kernel, TB, and better battery life. The S3 I can honestly say does everything and so much more except for the ability to backup app DATA which I need (games and such).

Is there a way to root, avoid a custom recovery, keep my current stock ROM, AND (<-- keyword) stop Sammy's updates from popping up unless I chose to search for them?

Thanks for the help.

Just flash the blazer ROM in the root guide and the updates will stop. Its the latest version and will no longer feel the need to update since its the newest rom

this is the stock rom goofball....

here [ROM]Blazer ROM[8/7/12][Haters Gonna Hate][LG8][v1.7] - xda-developers

its just the lg8 update that your phone is trying to update to. just make a nand and flash it and your update notifs will stop. mine did.

I resent that name....

Anyway, in my experience with HTC, flashing ROMs properly included wiping everything. I do not want to wipe everything. I want to keep my current ROM because I can't back up the data on the numerous apps I have now.

i didnt mean to offend you, but its just an update for your current rom. I didnt wipe jack squat when i installed it and it worked flawlessly for me. and you never had to wipe anything when going from a sense to a sense, or an aosp to an aosp. you only really had to start from scratch when going from sense to aosp(or aokp for that matter) to sense or vice versa. The same seems to hold true when going from a touchwiz to a touchwiz. if youre so worried about the data in your apps, do a titanium backup (with data backed up) of your apps, sms backup of your texts, and a nand, flash the lg8 update, and if it all goes awry, restore your nand, your texts and the apps and data via TiB. Oh, and you dont hafta wipe when restoring because guess what the recovery does for you just before it restores a nand.

I saw stories where flashing w/o wiping data (especially) and the caches could bork stuff. But I definitely forgot about rooting > backing up w/TiB and other apps I use > nandroid > then flashing. -__- I might do it later. I actually wanted to keep this phone as stock and not tweaked as possible seeing as how it's already an amazing phone. But I might scratch my itch again and flash away *sigh*

Read the OP. I said nothing about removing bloatware.

thats why im asking, TiB and ad blocking is it?

Yes. Backing up app data, blocking ads, and stopping official updates from constantly asking me to install themselves. It's pretty much all I did w/the OGEVO except I did flash ROMs. Once I found one that was good, I didn't flash anything else (the non-flashing part only happened the last 2 weeks before buying the S3. Every other ROM had 1 thing that I didn't like which caused me to flash again). The stock S3 has almost everything that I needed to root and flash the OGEvo just to get.

well then, youre probably better off just doing the recovery, flashing the lg8 update, and being done with it man. Youll spend far more time searching for an answer that may not exist then just biting the bullet and doing the full monty. Youre already rooted, so your warranty is already void (but you can always unroot). So, you could have already solved your problem in the time its taken to have this discussion. Im jussayin

Actually I'm stock, lol. I rooted the no-trip counter way, wanted the latest updates from Sammy (stupid honestly because they took away the search thing that Apple was crying over), and unrooted. Haven't been rooted for a little over a now.
