Help New user/ Old Phone

Hey everybody! I just bought a (used)EVO 4G(off of Amazon) to replace my EVO Shift, and I've found that I'm stuck back in 2010 and have 1.47.651.1 running as my software, I've tried to force update via pushing the update button to no avail. I was wondering if anyone has a "working" link to the ROM? That or maybe you might be able to point me in the right different direction. I don't think I want to root, as I'm not at all a programmer or anything like that. Thank you for any help you might give! Take care!

Welcome to the forums!!!
That version is old, I don't recognize it...it may be a froyo version.
However, you need not be a programmer to root phone, in fact, your software version might be easy to root!!
If you desire to not root, I can try to help you update but I am not sure.
If you desire to go ahead and root, let us know!
Some one here will recognize that version and give more advice than I can.

Edit: that may even be Eclair? pre froyo?
 
All you should have to do is run the most recent RUU from your computer and you'll be good to go. There should be a link somewhere in the stickys. Lemme find it

I think you run that file from your computer with phone plugged in.
However, I have not run an ruu before, so there might have to be some settings on phone that need to be changed easily such as fastboot disabled, usb debugging enabled etc.
 
Correct. It's an .exe file so you run it from your computer with the phone hooked up to it. It will completely reinstall everything on the phone to make sure its 100% right.
 
well, I'm dumb and do not have a windows based computer here that isn't running the ancient operating system, i'll have to figure something out. I think i'll pop into my local sprint store and ask if they can do the update. Thanks again guys.
 
looks like it worked! they updated it to the 5.07.651.1 710RD
I think that my story of the bluetooth audio not playing through my car stereo worked. It took about an hour, so I had to bum around BestBuy... I didn't buy anything. Well! Thanks a ton for everyone's input, I really appreciate it! I'm sure I'll be back in the future to get my answers questioned and my questions answered. Thanks again guys!
