Help How do I turn off....

My 4G signal at home is spotty. When the phone is searching for the signal my battery is severely drained. I am on ICS 232. I can't figure out how to stop phone from searching for signal AND keep wifi turned on. Airplane mode doesn't work because I lose wifi. When I go to turn off data, it says it is off. Does anyone know how?

Go to settings>wireless & networks > mobile networks then change network mode to CDMA only

Also, you can turn on Airplane Mode and then turn on WiFi. It's true that a switch to airplane mode turns off WiFi if it is on, but WiFi can still be turned on while the phone is in airplane mode.
