Help 4g data keeps dropping to 1x

I bought this phone for my wife because of the unlimited 4g data, text and talk. Verizon was putting the screws to me having her on my account! Lol

Anyways...

I'm quite sure it's just the typical metro pcs service, but maybe I'm missing something here...

She'll have two bars of 4g signal strength, sitting in the same spot she will go on the web or youtube and the bars go to nothing and then the darn phone goes to 1x network speed. This is constant! Anyone got any suggestions or ideas?

My daughter has some other 4g phone from metro and she doesn't have this issue. And they both live in the same house.
 
This sounds like the scenario at my GF's house.

In her back-yard, 4g no problem, decent speeds. Move inside to the den, in the back of the house, EV only... and even that's spotty. Move to the FRONT, in the living room, close to the windows, and you've got 4G again.

Even voice phone is spotty in the back of the house. Why? She p-whipped me into putting up solar film last year. I spend weeks on it... french doors, ornate windows... what a pita... and while it IS cooler, it also fubar'd all cell phone reception. The only windows not filmed are the front ones at the living room (north side of house, not in sun). There, you can still get 4G. Its either that or out back on the patio....in the Florida heat, or rain, with mosquitoes the size of B-17's.

Havin' said that.... my Metro phone is tops at my workplace. Fantastic speeds. At my own house... so-so, but better than the GF's. My WORK phone (Verizon) is terrible at my workplace, but great at my house. Go figure! We also have the two dead Verizon corridors on I-95 in South Florida. One in Pompano south of Sample and/or Copans Road, one north of Glades Road in Boca Raton. So I gotta deal with THAT several times a week too.

No matter the carrier, there are holes in their coverage it seems. I've had ATT... holes, Sprint...holes, Verizon...holes, and Metro... holes.

I will say tho, that all thru south and central Florida, Key West to Daytona, and across to Tampa, Metro coverage is at least as good as the others. Can't say for the rest of the country.
 
I'm actually able to use my 4G at work now. I can even download stuff without the connection timing out.

Still doesn't work in my basement though.
 
My frustration has been with having to toggle 4g back manually from 1x by hitting airplane mode. If it can go from 4g to 1x on its own the reverse should hold true as well.

It goes from 4G to 1x because the connection is bad so it switches to a lower band. Once you're in a better coverage area it will go back to 4G.

Thank you! I updated to the latest prl and it seems a lot better. :)

By the way? Does it sometimes help to go back in terms of the prl? Meaning, I may get better results from an older one?
Just curious, after all, it is metro pcs! lol

I have had the best coverage from Verizon personally, though they're the most expensive. I never did own a metro pcs phone, wife and daughter has and I get feed back from them, most times it isn't good. We live in the city and still have issues. At my old apartment? I was a stones throw away from a major freeway in the city and my daughter's metro pcs phone couldn't cop a signal. She has the Galaxy Indulge.

Believe me, I'm clinging tight to my grandfathered plan on Verizon... 75 bucks a month for unlimited data and 450 minutes, I don't talk much or do any any texting. Believe me, I can chew through some data! lol

You could if you want really, lets say the download speed is 2Mbps or more than it would be not be worth changing them.
If you have the time you could just check them out and run a speed test like
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest&hl=en
from the GPlay Store to see which one shows as being faster.
That's just Metro though- 4G on this side of the street and 1x on the other side LOL
 
Mine dropped today to 1x and I have no clue why. If I look at the coverage map for my zip, like, everything MILES BEYOND MILES is in the coverage area for 4G. It was honestly only for a short while, but I was surprised to see it. I still love this phone though :)

It's off and charging right now for the 2nd time after a complete charge and drain. I should be good to go now. Also, by the way, my first charged lasted exactly 24 hours with normal use. It's awesome.
 
Mine juggles between 4G and 1X depending on where I am in my house. Out and about around town it is 4G almost all the time and works well however their 4G speeds are about like my friend's 3G speeds via Verizon. TBH I am more pissed about the dropped calls I get in certain areas no matter how good the signal is. 2 bars, 3 bars, drop drop drop...
