Root Verizon 5.7.906 Will It Un-Root Me?

Daniel T

Lurker
Greetings all,

My Droid 3 keeps nagging me that it has downloaded, and is ready to install, update 5.7.906.
I'm currently on 5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US
My phone is rooted, and I am concerned about updating - will this take away my root privileges?
If so, is there a tool available to re-root which is working on 5.7.906?

Please advise, as I'm nervous about this. I would rather not update than update and lose my root access.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, Daniel!

Let me move this to the D3 root section so you can get the right answer. There's a guide there named Doogald that would probably help you. He's really cool.

I'll send you a PM too so you know exactly where your thread went.

btw- Looking at a thread found here, it does look like you will get unrooted. Hopefully doogald can confirm. Thanks in advance doogald.

Hello,
I just read this thread-
I want to factory reset(hopefully with the 5.6...SBF I am downloading now).
I've read about not resetting when rooted...
Since I've been 'upgraded' to 5.7 already, can I go ahead and
factory reset, assuming all things 'root' have been restored/removed?

I used Pete's tool to originally root, and now it won't let me 'unroot'
because it can't get access to adb...

Thanks for the help!

Did you ever debloat at all? It's actually not all that hard to unroot, but if you ever removed any system apps that might change things.

Anyway, if it is rooted stock without debloating, just follow these steps to unroot:

http://androidforums.com/droid-3-all-things-root/611821-unroot-manually.html

If you did debloat, and you upgrade to 5.7.906, you can use this 1-click app to get back sto stock unrooted: [6-21-2012] droid 3 xt862 .906 to .890 1_click_sbf .exe - xda-developers

Excellent, thanks!

I went with the 1-click SBF just to be safe, and it worked flawlessly.

I was having trouble activating the phone (I'm out of the country) but
a simple touch-screen code I found gave me access without calling for activation.

:D
