NKT - Are you seeing anything in your system yet?

I just read this post from the Verizon forums where a tech apparently sees the Incredible in the system... "Hes a tech, he doesnt work in the store front like a salesman does - his only job is to test devices and then train the sales staff when its time to release. If you dont believe be call #611 and ask about the Htc incredible. They wont know anything about it, but when they start to search HTC I - It will auto complete - meaning its now in their system and is only a matter of time."

This is a bad sign.

If there are issues with 2.1 on the Verizon network (a plausible explanation given the Droid upgrade delay and the non-announcement of the Incredible) then Verizon is likely to do a v-e-r-y s-l-o-w rollout of 2.1 in order to be sure they fixed whatever the problem was.

My recollection is that the Droids are getting a phased upgrade over a period of weeks. Isn't it reasonable to assume that if Verizon wants to control and monitor the performance of 2.1 phones on the network, they're going to delay the Incredible until after the Droid upgrade rollout is completely done, and perhaps even for some additional time thereafter?

It lays out the schedule for roll out in the article . . . and it's pretty aggressive.

Verizon turned down the iPhone because they were concentrating on their network at the time. They were building up their network at the same time AT&T was getting their network destroyed by the iPhone. It also helps that CDMA can carry many more calls per channel than GSM can.

That was only to one distro center, if memory serves.

Also, I just threw up a little. Fox News just ran a story on Verizon getting....the iPhone.:eek::eek: I know we've been seeing the story, but I really didn't wanna see it on the news...

That was me. My "contact" is tight with the guy at the Distribution center and he said to him that they have 70K units on order. That was last Friday.

Edit: He saw it on a BOL which means it's scheduled to ship. No date on the shipment though.

Oh, okay.....no need to root the phone to get android 2.1 on it?

No, the latest 2.1 ROM for the Eris came out of HTC Tiawan. It's a zip file that you load on SD card, basically reboot phone and the phone updates to 2.1.
My understanding is you can't go back to 1.5 and it will let you OTA when 2.1 is pushed.

I think yesterday we had multiple ppl call #611 and said the HTC Incredible is confirmed to be in the systems.

His friend who is the tech actually has the device though and is testing it according to what he says. He also is going to give training and said release is usually within 2 weeks though i hope it's even earlier.

** edit: disregard my math -- see further comments below **

That's sarcasm, right? The rollout plan calls for exactly 10K upgrades on day 1. That's less than a tenth of one percent of the over 1 million droids sold. Even if the upgrade rate is increased exponentially thereafter, you're still looking at a several week upgrade path.

And then 200,000/day after that. Sounds pretty aggressive to me.

Day one will have a total of 20,000 people updated.

Day two is a 24 hour break period, no updates.

Day three is a 200,000 update period.

Then each day after that 200,000 ppl will get an update until everyone has one.

No, day two no one gets an update. It's a 24 hour break period with no updates.

Day 3, April 1st, will get 200,00 updates and then each day after that gets 200,000 updates until everyone gets it.

Exactly how man ppl have a DROID?

Is it really necessary for ALL 1,000,000 Droid users (or whatever the number is) to receive this update before VZW can launch the Incredible?

The math says at least eight days to complete the rollout, if everything goes exactly as scheduled. Longer if there are any delays.

Then there's the question whether VZW will want to sit back and observe the impact on the network before announcing and/or releasing a new 2.1 phone. Maybe yes; maybe no.

So if I'm right that VZW delays the Incredible until after the rollout, you're looking at a delay of 9 days on the absolute low end, and maybe 3 weeks on the high end. Hopefully not longer than that.

Folks, they did this once already...and they did it very well. Say what you will of Verizon but when they do something like this (regardless of how many times it's delayed) they dot their i's and cross their t's. Their change management is truly first class.

The more important part of this latest notice for Droid owners (like myself) is the switch from ESE53 to ESE81...if you're in the root/modding/custom rom community that's the much bigger deal! There is now a legit ESE81 to base new ROMs on...

Just wait until the Incredible is released and this micro-community (Incredible "phans") sinks their teeth into custom rom's for the Incredible...it'll be...well...(why not, everyone else is using the cliche like it's going out of style)...INCREDIBLE!

Its just a theory that I put forth. Its based on the supposition that the Droid upgrade delay and the non-announcement of the Incredible both derive from some network problems discovered on Android 2.1 devices. If this is true, then its reasonable to think that Verizon would want to control, monitor and manage the rollout of any new 2.1 devices -- whether 2.1 upgraded Droids or new Incredibles. Verizon is extremely protective of their network, after all.

*wonder, rather. Sheesh! I'll be back in a while guys - I'm gonna go on Ebay to find out how cheaply I can buy an "Edit" button for! :)

Oh hey, THERE'S Steven! Hi bud! We were beginning to woder where you were - we thought that it might have taken you longer to get caught up today because you were stopping to click on all of Wood's "Free Kappy and Montana Man" signatures! lol!! :D :p
