Radio Interface Resource Shortage FIX

Well I received my "NEW" replacement phone today, the good news is that the Radio Resource Shortage message has not appeared yet, even when there is no signal, the bad news is that the signal still jumps between full scale to no bars. This phone is the VM branded one.
At least I got a spare battery, sd card, charger and back cover out of this mess.

I got my evo v 2 weeks ago and just started experiencing this SMS error in the last couple days. I did the ota personalize upgrade a few days ago, before I ever experienced this problem.
Is this a software problem common to ALL evo v's? Or just of us lucky ones? Might determine if I exchange or flat out return.
I have also been experiencing poor initial gps acquisition. It usually takes several minutes of driving before my gps and navigation lock on and actually help me get around. I never once experienced these gps issues with my old lg Optimus v. It locked on quickly and started navigating before I pulled out of my parking spot.
Can these two issues be related? Since I have both problems, should I just return to Radio Shack? Exchange? Go back to my Optimus (please no!)?
Thanks,
RJ

You could try, but from my experience with this phone (i no longer have it as i switched to t-mo prepaid with a gnex), a hardware replacement probably won't do you much good. it appears to be a major firmware bug in the radio that HTC is well aware of but never was able to give me an ETA on fixing.

I want to get rid of the mms error but I'm kinda confused, I don't want to flash roms cuz I like my phone the way it is, but it seems like I have to flash a ROM in order to fix it.
So I have to be root, s-off, flash a ROM, downgrade hboot and then follow the turn your evo into a evo 3d guide?

Yup.

Well here's what I would do since you like your phone the way it is. Root then before you do anything download titanium backup off play store. There is a free version and it let's you backup all your apps and data (which includes personalization and such).

Install jmz's stock rooted rom.

Go through the steps in Leslie Anne s post and get the downgraded radio and prl and all that.

Now you can use titanium backup to restore all your apps and data and you won't be able to tell you installed a different rom.

I would suggest trying out midnight rom, it's got the basics of sense with some bloat taken out along with a lot of improvements and enhancements.

Good luck

actually I figured it out. I didn't want a custom rom on my phone because I didn't really like them, stock is better. this is how i got stock working with the new radios that fixed the errors. its a long process but its worth it.

need to be rooted and s-off. make a full backup from the recovery of your choice. follow the fix everything guide by leslie. once you are up and running with the new radios and rom, switch back to the stock hboot 1.57 and restore from your nandroid backup in that order.

the reason you have to install harmonia or one of the other roms before flashing is because stock will bootloop with that older engineering radio. once you have hboot 1.57 stock will work again. if you REALLY didnt want to flash that rom you could probably get away with battery pulling after every P86IMG flash but I wouldn't recommend it.

Why do you consider stock better? Custom ROMs offer more functionality, more customization, are usually quicker because of optimizations and removal of bloat stock apps, etc.. I can't really think of any reason to prefer stock.

Once you get a custom ROM you don't go back...ever. Seriously.

I've been updating PRL thru settings, when that stopped resolving the issue I tried the "clear" suggestion, still not sending texts!!! It is soooo frustrating because it happens randomly. Why is it the smarter and more expensive the phones get the more problems we have? I am ready to go back to a flip phone!!

I was thinking this the other day. I think my radio has somehow reverted back to stock because I've been getting a lot of radio interference errors lately. And on top of that my alarm app force closed and I was late to work.

I was wishing I could go back to my old ass nokia bar, that thing was the shit on alltel! Monochrome screen and polyphonic ringtones hahaha

I'm rooted, s-off, I flashed midnight rom,
I haven't gotten the mms error but still got the signal fluctuation, the only thing that I don't like is the YouTube app because of the black background, also I don't know what can I do with some apps like no frills CPU control, goo manager, adaway and lealdroid.

No frills allows you to overclock, goo manager notifies you when a new rom version is available, ad away does just that, LeeDroid allows you to customize the ui in various and cool ways.

What are the best overclock settings for our phone?, can I flash the 4g hack if I'm running midnight ROM?

Overclocking is a trial and error process as always. Whether it's a phone, cpu or video card they are all individuals. There is no general "best" setting.

That said the MSM8660 is designed to run at 1.5 GHz.

Not necessarily, the cpu in our phones may be underclocked or they may be binned at the lower speed because Qualcomm won't guarantee 100 % functionality at the higher speed. That's why some are good clockers and others are not.

That's true. I think I wrote that in a rush and should have said (except for subject to binning)

The only advantage to this issue is that Virgin is well aware of it and if you're a "persistent" consumer like I am at least you can get comped for your time and trouble. I've gotten hundreds of minutes added to my account and been refunded for at least 2 months service. Just be polite but firm and if they say that they don't have the authority ask for someone who can or else ask for the issue to be escalated. You've got nothing to lose by asking.
