installing ROM

hey guys,

i just got a S2 today. What i am planning to do is to first upgrade it to ICS and then root it. Install siyah and a custom ROM. Im basically installing siyah coz i heard that you can read NTFS usb drives with it. Can anyone link me as to how to install a ROM?? Because i found guides on rooting and installing siyah. Is my approach correct?

Thank You

Hello and welcome to Android forums liquidsnake87! :)

First things first... ironass motto... "Flash in haste... repent at leisure".

Lets take this a step at a time... first I would update your phone to ICS using Kies.

Once you have successfully updated to ICS, you can then root your phone, using these instructions...

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html

Once you have rooted your phone you can select which custom ROM to install. Once you have chosen your ROM, you can download it to your external SD card and flash it using CWM Recovery.

If the custom ROM does not come with the latest Siyah kernel, and providing that Siyah is compatible with the custom Rom you have selected, you can flash it using the istructions in post #1...

I would strongly suggest reading through the links I have given you as they will answer most of your questions as you go through them.

ok thanks. Another question i have is whether siyah is compatible with the stock ROM? Further can i revert back to the stock kernel after flashing siyah???

Thank you

Welcome to the forum liquidsnake87

Yes siyah is compatible with stock firmware. And yeah you can go back to the stock kernel, just flash with Odin and it would replace siyah.

thank you for the quick reply

now in order to read ntfs usb, i just have to connect the usb to the OTG cable and connect the cable to my phone?? Does it support external HDD's of any size??

Thank you

If i have rooted the phone as described by ironass, can i unroot it? what is the process for the same?? Can i also reset my flash counters?? I read somewhere that using USB rejig doesnt alter the flash counters. Can the flash counter be reset??

Thank You

Yes you can "unroot", flash the original kernel via Odin. And yes you can get rid of the yellow triangle and reset the flash counter with "Triangle Away" available in the Play store here :

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=triangleaway

However a far as I know, the only way to get rid of the yellow triangle and reset the flash counter is to flash the old Ginger Bread boot loader and use a USB jig as "Triangle Away" needs a rooted phone to work.

What you mean to say is that even if the stock kernels are flashed the yellow triangle appears?? Because i thought of first using triangle away and then flashing it to stock kernels. However if this method is adopted, once triangle away is used the flash counters are returned to 0 and the yellow triangle disappears but once the stock kernel is flashed doesnt this turn the counter to 1??

Thank You
