Root Your favorite kernel and why

Again thanks. So no kernel let's 1 CPU core sleep and turns it on once its need? Or do all the apps, roms and kernels report the wrong status? Only modster kernel shows both CPU cores as active but none never sleep.

The stock kernel lets it sleep like it should.

My kernel in combination with dual cpu app, lets you disable cpu 1 completely.

That's the one that most people use but there are actually a few different kernels available for our phone from Chad so you might wish to look around and do some research to see what fits you the best. That one is sort of a generic in that it works for both CDMA and GSM versions of the Evo as well as the Sensation.

Is there a reason to use the CDMA specific kernel? I haven't really been able to find a ton of helpful information there.

I believe that the "universal" base gets updated more frequently. But hey, it takes all of a minute to flash kernels so just play around and see what happens and preferred for you.
 
JMZ your kernel is the only one that works the way I think a kernel should work. One core sleeps until its needed.

While I am a full supporter of jmz's work as my previous posts confirm, this statement is just not correct. Chad's Anthrax kernel when properly configured also has that capability.
 
JMZ kernel is really great....speed when needed and battery saver when sctlreen is off. I get through a 14 hour day and usually have 1/3 to 1/2 left.

What's to properly configure? You flash it and its gonna work or not. Why have it any other way? What's the benefit to battery life and performance having it any other way? I don't get why that would not be the default mode.
 
You can't max both battery life and performance. Any kernel is going to try to compromise to find the point at which that developer thinks is best.

There are plenty of configurations/tweaks the end user can do to make changes to the developers stock setup

If users didn't want to tweak and customize settings none of us would be here because we would all still be using the VM stock rom!:p

Because leaving your overclocking at 1.7 as a daily driver instead of just for benchmark use is just foolish, you wont have any difference in daily use except for poor battery life and more random reboots. Battery life and performance are at odds with one another, thus my statement about proper configuration.

Having the kernel default to both cores always on or default to just one core on is point less to me. JMZ's kernel like I said was the 1st one that I noticed to work the way I think a kernel should.... when my goal is battery life and performance.

well we have 1GB of ram so why don't we stop sending power to some of the ram chips so we can save on battery life and loose performance?
 
I don't understand why some people need to overclock their phones on to high levels like 1.7ghz. Why do you need all that horsepower? I leave mine on 1ghz and leave the second core off. It's undervolted and has an extended battery. I get 2 days of constant use, 1 day of extreme use, And 3 for light use. :)

I'm a huge fan of the GPL that makes Android and the modding community possible and legal, so my favorite kernel is anything but Anthrax.
