Any former iPhone users here?

What battery performance do you define as 'totally sucks'

Like burning up 70% of it's charge within 10 hours or so, being off nearly the entire time. I maybe use it for a max of 10-15 minutes throughout the work day. The rest of the time, it is off in my pocket. And the fact that it completely kills itself during the night (at about a 75% charge) and I wake up to a totally dead phone in the morning.

Since the vast majority of users don't have that experience you must obviously have a faulty phone or battery. Have you tried returning it to your supplier?

How do you figure? There are tons of threads on a bunch of different forums complaining about the poor battery life on these S3's. A lot of them are worse than mine.

I replied to your other post. You certainly have rogue apps and are doing more harm than good

How would I find these "rogue" apps?

This is all I have DL'ed...

Because Samsung have sold roughly 20 MILLION S3's and it isn't a recognised problem, despite there being 20 million phones with 20 million batteries, ie 40 million potential problems.
When the S3 was released Which? conducted exhaustive tests and found that the S3 had (at 12.1 hours of talk time) the best battery life of ANY smartphone and still 50% more than the Iphone 5's "up to 8 hours" according to Apple.
If I had an electrical problem in my house I would call an electrician. If I had a battery problem in my S3 I would first of all contact my supplier and if I got no joy I would buy another battery. If the new battery gave good life I would assume the old battery was a dud.

So do you go into all of the battery complaint threads and yell at all the people who are having issues with the S3 battery life?

Look, I'm not here bashing Samsung or their phone. I'm just trying to solve an issue that apparently a lot of other people are also having. I love the S3 and the Android OS, but I also want to be able to enjoy it without worrying about the darn thing dyeing on me halfway throughout the day, leaving me stranded.

I'm actually considering one of those Hyperion 4200mah batteries. The only thing that sucks about those is having to find another case since my Otter Box Commuter obviously won't fit.

I'm not yelling at you or anyone else, simply saying that if I had bad battery life I would assume that either most likely the battery was faulty or the phone was faulty.
Occams Razor says the most obvious answer to any question is also usually the correct one.

Chops2 -- One of the things you can do is go into settings -> Developer Options -> tap the checkbox for "Show CPU usage". This will overlay onto your screen who is using your CPU.

If you are seeing an app that is constantly using CPU at a high rate this is likely your culprit.

For me it was one of the major Bible Applications. I had to uninstall it all together because its privileges allowed it to restart itself. Forget battery if you have the widget for it installed.

Also if you are having an "EVENT" where you phone is losing battery quickly and is getting warm you may want to try this trick. That is what we call rogue apps.

Battery usage is only one aspect of monitoring. For instance if you have an app that is looping the CPU for 30 minutes it will only show 30 minutes of usage while it took nearly 50% of your battery life.

So CPU and Battery monitoring will help you determine who is the culprit.

Hope this helps.

I apologize for my comment earlier. I was just a little aggravated and expressed it on here. Sorry.

As for the battery life, I think I might have solved it for the most part. Since my earlier posts, I uninstalled Juice and Easy, turned off mobile data (which I think is probably the biggest factor) and turned off any and all sync'ing.

I have somewhat weak LTE reception here at home, and darn near no reception of any kind of signal at work. This is why I think the battery has been draining so quickly, even while being off (in standby).

Since disconnecting from the charger this morning around 10am, I've been using my phone on and off all day, sending text messages, taking a call that lasted 15 minutes or so, browsing the web and even going on Facebook for a little bit, and I'm only down to 73% now. That's a lot better than this time yesterday at work with almost no usage at all.

Looking at CPU usage doesn't seem to show anything out of the norm from what I can tell. Nothing really seems to be out of place.

Weak signal will destroy your battery. Also continuously stopping processes or applications in the background can have this affect as well.

If you're in a weak signal area and its critical your battery last, place the phone in airplane mode when you're not using it. It'll help save the battery. :)

This is true for any cell phone, weak signal = battery drain. ;)

this might help also, I also have poor data service at home, meaning it takes a ton of battery searching for a signal, so the minute I walk in the house I turn on Wifi, it has saved a ton of battery and (I know it can eat battery also, but no where near what a poor signal can, in my experience)I keep all the other goodies on that make a smart phone smart..otherwise what is the point. I get a full day of battery and sometimes I will even go to bed with 30% or more.

This makes no sense to me. How/why would this cause worse battery life?

If there's less crap running, then there's less power being wasted away.

Because the majority will restart in the background which will use more battery than just leaving.

sorry i thought this was a topic about if you had an iphone and now a galaxy?
