Concerning marketing...Is there a way to measure the "viral" reach of a marketing effort? This thread and the scuttle-but all over the net has built quite a bit of hype around this device. Any thoughts??

As far as marketing is concerned, I guarantee you that the marketing agencies already have a plan in place for the launch date. It wont be as big as the Droid launch because that wasn't only introducing a new device but the operating system on verizon - verizon carried media spend.

For assessing the reach and buzz of the interwebz there are a few tools you can look at. Free ones are Google Trends, BlogPulse, Howsociable, Quantcast to name a few. The pros use services like Radian6, Trendrr and Scout Labs. Measuring how "social" things are is big business. They know what's going on, and are watching.

I hope it isn't skype. VZW could easily push a functioning skype on the Incredible AFTER release... Just had it pushed on my S1 and I hid the icon as soon as I found it.

I called VZW Customer service and "yelled" at them for keeping on pushing app icons onto my Storm 1 when I saw the skype icon. Forcing me into crap I don't want/need. I was told that Pushing apps out to your phone is a blackberry thing through the BIS and "they have no control over it" not an android thing. She said she would "escalate the issue" (Doubt it). I was reassured that if I got an android phone that this would not happen. C'Mon Incredible! :D

Hopefully she wasn't BS'ing me.

:D

If they are sitting boxed up in Taiwan does that mean they have to unbox the thousands of them and update them and re-box? Or are the phones not mass produced yet?

My guess is that they are already produced. (Can't change anything without reapproval from FCC, right?) So they are sitting in racks and as soon as the final version is ready, they just hook em up and update, then package.

I dont care what they call it as it will always be the incredible to me.... oh and as for April fools I will be torturing my forum with pranks not here.
Why not test your prank here. I am sure these guys won't mind. lol

Someone just posted this message in the Official HTC EVO / WiMAX 4G thread and pointed this out: Sprint's HTC EVO may be sold on Verizon as HTC Venture. I'm just curious as to what you might think.

This is exactly why I'll be taking advantage of my annual upgrade exactly 12 months after I get the Incredible. There will likely be Verizon 4G phones ready or near-ready by this time next year, and I expect a decent amount of metropolitan coverage by that time. Add that to the blanket 3G coverage and you have yourself a winner. Side-by-side, I'd take the hit on internal storage and LCD (vs. AMOLED) to get the bigger screen and hdmi out.

Dear Mr. tdub88,
Yes, I AM a Grandmother, and a retired school teacher, ...and a lover of all things connected to NEW PHONES,.....and I can see by your mastery of the English language..."a bunch of "ass-hats".....and your over-all finesse and diplomacy that you, and you alone, can decifer the difference between truth and lies. We stand in awe of you.........

You Go Granny!!! :D

For this discussion, a load is a complete package of software including an Android OS build, apps, default settings, etc. At this late stage in the process, its highly unlikely that there are any functional changes in the load. Best practise is to freeze the feature function stuff well before release, and to restrict changes to bug fixes.

So, the best guess [with a slathering of heresay sauce] is that the Android build we saw on 24 March is the final bugfix build which has been incorporated into the new software load and is now being tested.
- If the testing confirms that all the known bugs are fixed [and nothing new rears its ugly head] then the new load would become the release load.
- Production can them start stamping them out and shipping them to VZW for sale.
- The announcement and marketing roll-out could start at the same time.

We wont have an announcement until the testing is done and the final software image [aka release load] is frozen. VZW won't have stock until HTC delivers product with the final software image loaded.

I have been stalking this phone online for what feels like forever, and once I found this place it made me feel less insane that I was obsessed over a phone. Now I'm obsessed with this site also... I dont know if anyone has posted this site before, but I entered the item descript (pcd adr6300) from NKT's photo and came up with a site that has accessories for the phone. Everything is listed 'out of stock' but atleast it makes the phone seem real...it also refers to it as the incredible...

I don't understand why we get all excited every time one of the hundreds of VZW employees on this forum says that they got promotional equipment. I appreciate the info, but do you know how often stores get promotional info? It could mean nothing unless you tell us what that promotional info is. That's great that the Droid gets a new sleek photo, or the Eris gets a bigger picture..we're all in this for the Incredible!

Also, I can't thank you enough NKT. All the info you have posted for us. I think I can say this on behalf of everything, YOU ARE AWESOME. lol :p
Anyway, do you know if the back of the phone is flat like the Eris?
