Root Sending my phone back to Virgin Mobile. Unroot or not

Well .. that says it all. Should I bother going thru the process of unrooting, flashing stock and locking the bootloader? Will they check the phone. How can I brick it so it doesn't turn on...lol.

lol i have sent many phones back with custom roms running never had any issues, but if you really want to brick your phone you can try flashing a rom not ment for you phone :D. like a rom for the gs3

I believe virgin Mobile doesn't have a software inspection they might have a hardware inspection though. I would re flash to the stock rom and recovery. So don't worry too much about that :)

It's funny how you intentionally wanted to brick your phone, 4ext doesn't allow you to flash, when you are about to flash something that you don't know will brick your phone it'll get bricked :what: lol this always happens :p it happened to me on my Optimus v, I tried flashing an Optimus one kernel and poof, hard brick in the face :banghead: I sent it back to virgin Mobile and got a replacement :D

That's fraud. Getting back to the op, believe me after over a dozen replacement phones all they do is a cursory hardware inspection and then flash the software image. They don't troubleshoot or look at the software at all.

Just for the record insurance fraud is illegal and it can get you in trouble.

Not only is it a bad thing, but it isn't something that should ever be discussed here. Please keep it out of the conversation.

I never suggested insurance fraud. This isn't a insurance claim . It's a warranty issue. And the only reason I'm sending it back is because of the radio resource error shit. They offered a replacement. I know they the new phone will do the same thing. But I will take a new phone for free. Mine had a few scratches and I've flashed the shit out of it. Mine as well Get a fresh phone. And S-Off that bitch. That and a radio change should get rid of the error.

By the way the "new" phone won't be "new" it's classified as a type "A" replacement. You'll have to find out what that means.

Class A phones are the complete phone in the retail box that may never been activated, might be a gift that was returned, whatever. It's still not new in that Virgin will have reflashed and given it a new meid. Class B phones, which are rarely given out contain most of the items, might not have the original packaging, maybe missing the charger. Class C phones are basically the phone itself and nothing else inside of a white box. Under Virgin's replacement policy you are only eligible for a Class A replacement within the first 30 days of activating the phone. Doesn't mean you won't get one after that merely that they're not obligated to do so. The only reason why they even have Class A phones is that consumer protection laws prevent them selling the product as new once the box has been opened, like I said it doesn't matter if it was even activated. Open box=used.

When you start talking about "bricking" a device before sending it back to the carrier for whatever ever reason, it just sounds fraudulent and may still be. While you very well might have a legitimate warranty claim but by willfully bricking a device which might make it unable for Virgin to repair and instead forces them to write it off I will leave to your own conscience.

I returned an Evo V to VM and all I did was flash it back to stock. Never heard anything back so I guess flashing back to stock will take care of it.

Again, when they first receive the phone they flash a stock image. This prevents any customer information being left on board and makes the troubleshooting much easier because everything on the phone is set to known values. They don't even attempt to boot the phone when they receive it. Obviously this is not the same thing when you return the phone to a retailer.

Lol I bought my triumph and it had a battery problem and it wouldn't turn on after a while because I couldn't charge it. :( I have learned my lesson in buying used merchandise from ebay. It had some personal data so the only thing I could do is remove my sd card and change passwords. It took half a month for the seller to refund it. It had cm7 reloaded (thanks whyzor). He he he have fun restoring the phone you rip off artist :D

On the topic of fraud, what is advertising/selling a device with 4g in a state (and probably majority of the country) that doesn't have 4g ;)

Well technically there is absolutely NO 4G anywhere in the country. The US carriers bullied the ITU into relaxing the rules. On topic that's what the coverage maps are for.

Interesting..

I had to replace an Evo because of faulty headphone jack that couldn't distinguish headsets from headphones..

All I did was wipe everything except recovery...

It's the quickest way, no OS, no problem
