Hello All

I wanted to share something that happened to me.
I was trying to updates my GSIII and was running into an issue when it would tell me i couldn't download the 82 MB Update. ATT saying it was Samsung...and vice versa....This took me almost 10 days.

ATT Told me they couldn't exchange my phone (40 days since purchase) and I'd get a "refurb" Warranty replacement...not happy

The other option was to go to ATT, start a new line, trade in my phone for some credits, ATT would credit my account 75 bucks + wave the 36 activation fee since I was buying a new line all to get a new GSIII

So I went to the store resolved to do this...whislt in the store, I happened to see 2 GSIIIs on display 1 was Red the other Blue (Mine is Red)

I tried to do the update on the Blue...worked...on the Red...No Luck...so with this i thought it was a Red Model issue.

They brought me out a new Red one...put my sim in in...no dice...brought out a blue one...my sim card in no dice....new sim card, same results.

Several days prior, a rep told me that IMEI had not been put into a server properly. He fixed it and that didn't work. However standing in the store it was OBVIOUS this was not hardware but account related.

Sure enough a manager from ATT In Peru IL who is awesome went to the screen (as she described it to me) where the Purchase Blocker is located and selected "Reset All Preferences"

5 seconds later...Phone downloading update!!!!

Wanted to pass that on, sorry for the book

Not sure what exactly you are getting at since your title and post dont match, but did you try this?

Settings -> Application Manager -> Click on 'All' -> Scroll down to AT&T Software Update and click on it -> Click 'Clear data' -> You can now check for an update again, without waiting

jla781, I'm having the same problem. Nobody can get me a straight answer, where is the Purchase Blocker located in settings?? Thanks

Yes I had already figured this out....but it doesn't matter......no matter how often I check, it always says "communication with the server failed....will check back in 48 hrs"

I feel like there is some coding problem somewhere in the AT&T system where when my phone is trying to speak with the server, it is not recognizing me somehow

I can't seem to update mine either. I'm all stock, never been rooted. AT&T). I've been trying everything I've read to get my phone to update. Currently on Baseband I747UCLG1... I know there's an update but I can't get it! I've tried Kies too and it also says that my phone is up to date. Pretty frustrating.

On another note, I have seen a quick little message at the bottom of the screen after I clear the data in AT&T software update and try to update- It says DM initialization is not ready, check network or SIM card or something to that effect. I checked the SIM a few times, I'm positive its in there correctly. I think I'll have to go to AT&T...

Just so everyone knows, or if anyone is still having this issue I took the phone into ATT and asked them to change out the SIM and re-register the phone on the network. The phone worked fine and updated without any problems afterwards.

Which invites the question - What if you don't have AT&T? I'm on US Cellular and was having the same problem. I ended up downloading the update from USCC and just installing it manually. What's up with that?

Where is this "Purchase Blocker" located? I have the same issue.

The Lady on the ATT store where I was located said that on the screen where the "purchase blocker" is located. This is something only someone at the ATT store could fix. Like I said I was in the Peru Illinois store when it was done and the manager took care of it for me. She went in and went to that screen and at the bottom there is a "clear all preferences" dialog. She selected it and boom it started working. From what I was told by a phone support rep later...they don't have access to that screen.

This is apparently a feature only ATT has access too. I had to go to the store for them to fix it on thier end

I stopped by my AT&T store to see if this would fix my inability to get any OTA updates.

The tech there could not find this reset dialog in the system, but was more than willing to reprovision a new SIM for me. Although nothing changed at first, this morning (48 hours later) I successfully checked and got the LH9 OTA from the AT&T server.

In short, if you cannot get OTAs, get a new SIM. Quick, easy, and free.

Now I'm ready for Jelly Bean! :)
