Root How many people have bricked their device?

Ok I'm just curious to how many people have bricked their evo v.

I didn't brick mine I'm just curious. ;) I think if you pulled the battery from the phone while it was updating the radios (in the bootloader) it would get bricked. Other than that this phone doesn't have a high chance of getting bricked :D. So.. anyone bricked it ? Hard brick? Soft brick? :)
 
juopunutbear f'd me up, had to ruu, but now i can't reroot, says

C:\sdk-tools>fastboot flash recover recovery.img
sending 'recover' (5132 KB)... OKAY [ 1.531s]
writing 'recover'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)

I used the recovery.img md5 same as it use to be when i first unrooted; i can only think that something is either physically wrong with the recovery partition, the ruu was updated by htc and now isn't the same dimensions (size/ path) it use to be preventing twrp recover 111 to be install ... i can't think of anything else.. anyone else have an idea?

you have a typo. double check what you type before hitting enter
 
I bricked 2 one while trying s off the other right when we flashed radios to turn to EVO 3d I was flashing so many rims and themes it never turned on after a reboot from recovery my phones now seem pretty solid all s off and rooted on viper 3d r73

If you get s off you can still flash sense roms but only better since you can control the kernels and install custom ones, as well as improve the radio and coverage :)

Is it possible with RUU (and ruu alone) to basically change your phone to an EVO 3D for sprint? And vice versa?

No, you would have to do jump through flaming hoops and pandora's temple to succesfully flash your phone to sprint. You would have to use cdma workshop and it's also illegal to flash a phone to another carrier without their consent. :(
 
I s-offed today, took 3 hours of hassel, and two different computers to do it with. But glad i did not brick it. I did think i almost fried my mini sd card though, took 3 formats til it started working for me.
 
I just have to weigh in here. There are 2 types of bricks. HARD brick means that nobody nor any procedure can revive your phone. Aka. Proven help from pros and they say your phone is hard bricked. Not just that "you tried everything".

SOFT brick is where you flashed a wrong ROM, or didn't flash a kernel correctly. SOFT brick is ALWAYS recoverable. It also happens if you dont do s-off procedure correctly.


You CANNOT HARD brick doing normal things like flashing ROMs, kernels, or recovery. You can SOFT brick doing the s-off procedure. But the wonderful guys that really support their stuff will work with you till its back to normal.

You CAN HARD brick flashing random radios, hboots. Which is 100% your fault and if you do a warranty exchange on it you are the problem.

What it boils down to is that if you HARD brick its your fault. Nobody else's. I have had well over 25 android phones. Only one did I brick and that was because I was working on hacking it for recovery. And I still have it. In hopes one day I figure it out.

The difference between soft and hard brick needs to be made. I hate hearing the term brick when you flash ROM, kernel, or recovery wrong
