Root Mine just died...

While eating lunch and browsing the news on the internet, screen just went black. Power button doesn't wake it up, turn it off, turn it on... nothing. Pull battery for about 5 minutes, still nothing. Get back out to the car (was on a service call about 2 hours from office)and plug in the car charger, thinking maybe it wasn't showing correct charge and died... red light comes on. YES!!! -then it goes off -NOOOO !!!!!
I pulled the battery for the whole ride back and had no luck at the office. Once I got home I can actually get into fastboot, with usb from my PC, but as soon as I use a button on the phone to selecet something, it dies again. Should mention, I have S-off, unlocked running Midnight and upgraded PRI and radio. Have tried all the different button combos that I've seen for similar issue, but no luck... its acting like a short somewhere

I had mine not wanting to charge and doing similar to yours. Took my battery out for a little while and was able to get into bootloader and then recovery by holding volume down and power simultaneously until the white screen showed up. I had to wipe errrrrything and install Rom again. Hopefully yours will do the same.....give it time to rest.

had it sitting with the battery out for an hour and a half on the way back to the office, planning on leaving it out overnite at this point. Have already contacted VM for a replacement phone, so it just a matter of waiting at this point

Do you have a spare battery? I had similar issue, while playing a game, the phone just died. When I plug it in, red/green light came on. VM claimed the phone was defective. They shipped a phone out right away. When I called them, I was at the office. Once I got home, I swap my back up battery in, and voila , it turned on. I then had to call VM to ship a new battery out, and return the phone they shipped.

I'd leave it on the charger a bit. I had an Intercept that did something similar. It shut off after 20 minutes of playing music and after being on the charger overnight. Took half an hour of sitting on the charger to act like it was charging, and that was towards the end of a customer service phonecall. They shipped me a new phone anyway since that clearly wasn't normal.

Take your battery out and hold down the power button for 20 seconds. This will discharge all the stored energy inside the phone. Then reinstall the battery and try it.

I worked a tech support hot line for a while and this was one of the tricks they taught us. At first I thought it was the stupidest idea ever, but after having a few customers with laptop and TV screens that were black but they could hear sound, try it, it worked a bunch of times.

I was in total disbelief when it worked the first time, the customer had to think I was crazy.

I tried holding the power button down with the battery out, I actually do that with PCs alot when adding hardware to make sure there is no residual charge built up before I plug something in. Its no longer showing up when I plug it into my pc, so I think its a goner :(

so, got the replacement phone, put my battery , sd card and cover on it and.... nothing.
Same issue. Ran to RatShack just before they closed and bought an HTC replacement battery, popped it in, plugged it into my car charger... TAADAA !
now, do I want the shiny new one, or mine (Still shiny, I keep it in an OtterBox Defender) with its Mods.. hmmmm
