Sprint, Metro PCS merger

3 years before they completely shut down the CDMA network, roughly a year or less before Metro gets access to TM phones.

From the way their talking, they want Metro customers on GSM phones asap so they can really start re-purposing spectrum.

2013: GSM phones and nationwide 4G arrive. In 2013, Metro will start offering phones on T-Mobile's network. T-Mobile has a much nicer array of smartphones than MetroPCS does; you'll also be able to use unlocked GSM phones with your plan, including unlocked iPhones. With these new phones, you'll be able to roam the nation on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, and even travel around the world with world-compatible GSM phones.

this is why im gonna hold off on the S3 and wait to get access to even better phones. hell, they might have the S4 coming out by then.
 
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF METRO CDMA GETS SHUT DOWN. Metro already announced the transition to VoLTE. Metro has been encouraging customer to upgrade to 4G phones so that they could finally introduce the VoLTE. When metro announced this it was clear to them that they wanted to dump cdma and focus more on LTE spectrum . Now that metro has more spectrum shared by T-Mobile they have the flexibility to make the change. Metropcs primary aim is to have LTE network , forget CDMA. So according to the announces and their remarks , metropcs still seem to be in the right track where they desired be. T-Mobile in the other hand , is converting to Metro LTE network in the long run. So our 4G phones will work on future T-Mobile lte network . Yes they have a lot of GSM device but they will slowly walk to the lte territory .

MetroPCS (PCS -1.9%) briefly turned positive following a Bloomberg report claiming Sprint (S -3.6%) is "in the early stages of evaluating a counter offer" for MetroPCS, and could decide on whether to one-up T-Mobile's bid as early as next week.

Sprint, which (unlike T-Mobile) uses the same 3G tech as MetroPCS, reportedly had a deal to buy the carrier in February, but its board got in the way.

Sprint would buy Metro instead of T-mobile. (And yes, T-mobile is trying to buy Metro, not the other way around.)

Metro would get to keep CDMA and LTE.
 
CDMA was gonna get dumped eventually no matter what which is why they're going to voLTE.

For T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom, the merger is seen as a last resort solution to keep T-Mobile USA going, fill its spectrum and be able to move to LTE under a viable business model. However, the two companies use different wireless standard -- MetroPCS uses CDMA and T-Mobile uses GSM -- which does not make them a natural fit.

(But T-mobile only cares about the spectrum. they don't actually care about keeping Metro customers. This deal will give them spectrum in many of the largest USA cities so they can compete with Verizon and AT&T.)

Now there are reports that Sprint may jump into the game and make an offer for Metro PCS and its 9.3 million customers. Both the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News referred to sources that said Sprint is running the numbers to figure out whether a bid makes sense or not.

T-Mobile currently has 33.2 million customers and needs MetroPCS to get closer to Sprint, which has 56.4 million customers. With MetroPCS, Sprint would be about twice the size of T-Mobile USA, which is battling high customer churn and remains the only major U.S carrier not to offer Apple's iPhone in its portfolio.

Analysts also seem to favor a Sprint-MetroPCS deal over a merger with T-Mobile: "We would note that Sprint might be in a position to offer (Metro)PCS shareholders a more favorable deal given the complicated buyout structure proposed by Deutsche Telekom," Well Fargo's Jennifer Fritzsche wrote in an analyst note sent out to clients.

Deutsche Telekom does not believe that the merger could be completed before mid-2013, so Sprint has still some time to consider an offer.

Sounds like someone at Metro dropped the ball on that one. I suspect AEre probably did Metro good helping them out in the forum here. Unless he was stoning them and I doubt that was the case they should be appreciative of him being a on-line supporter. So far as him possibly posting any Top Secret Crypto info from Metro, with all the wild ass wrong as hell info coming out from all their other employees, how the hell could you tell WHAT was good info or not?
