Root Question: How to use Vanilla Launcher (ie remove stupid Sprint ID button)

MStreeter

Newbie
I've completely removed Sprint ID from my device using Titanium Backup, but there's still that stupid ID button next to my App drawer that's just wasting space.

How would I go about setting this to a stock vanilla launcher. I don't want any fancy themes or anything quite yet. I just want that ID button gone!

I'm sure it's simpler than I'm making it out to be. :P

As far as I know, the only way to get rid of it is to download another launcher from the play store. Some popular ones are ADW, Go, and Holo.

Installed Launcher Pro, set Pro as default.

Now what?

Edit: I see what you were saying. Only way to remove the Sprint ID is to replace the launcher altogether.

sigh....

I guess there's no way to replace the icon with, say, the browser, and change nothing else.

Give it a try, you might like it!

I did give it a try. Widget fragmentation, stupid bundled apps that don't seem to be removable from the default applications menu nor uninstallable at all, another store that's stuck in my settings pane, a few certain UI decisions that I dislike such as preferences/app management fragmentation, games I can't remove, plugins I don't want, folders created on my /sdcard that clutter up things.

Yes, I am very picky.

OK, well you could try setting a different launcher temporarily (doesn't matter which one as long as it works) as default, remove the stock launcher (Launcher2-1.6.35-mdpi-nfc-ANDR_PRD.apk?) in /system/app, and replace it with Launcher2.apk from Aeneas or Harmonia. That GB launcher doesn't have the MobileID (or whatever Sprint calls it) icon on the dock bar.

Or you could just install Harmonia or Aeneas.

Be sure to make a CWM backup first just in case...

I would use system tuner. just my preference . be sure that launcher will work first, then use system tuner to uninstall stock.

And I reinstall the same launcher in /system/app? Or do I have to use the apk in that thread.

Edit: OMG IT WORKS! Booyah!

Thank you! :)

sorry for lack of response, was watching Joe Biden wipe the floor with a young twit from the cheese state lol. Glad it worked

Yep, its pretty simple. On ICS I just tapped and held it, then dragged it to the Remove spot. All gone. :-)
