Try them all. I've learned that what works well for some won't work for you. I'm using Franco's and I have very good battery life.

I'm on CM10. I'm trying out tinykernel right now, but haven't tried leankernel yet.

it seems that each phone reacts to each kernel differently and the best solution is to try each kernel out for a few days of normal use.

So far tinykernel seems alrite, but for some reason, it stopped charging at 99%. I suppose that's a built in feature to try to save the life of the battery.

That happens a lot. But yea try out different kernels. I prefer Lean as well but make sure to let the kernel settle in before jumping ship to a new one. I usually give it 3 days before switching

Franco makes my phone pretty responsive but batter life sux. Tiny kernel and trinity are the best ones I've tried for battery life.

Of the few I've tried, I found the stock CM10 kernel was the best for battery life on my phone. Leankernel works well for the other ROMs I've tried.

How can I flash the stock cm10 kernel on top of tinykernel? I can find a file for the kernel alone. Should I just flash the entire CM10 again?

Wiping caches and reflashing the ROM will install the stock kernel without losing data

So I just wiped caches and flashed the new CM10 nightly this morning. Does that mean that I now have the stock CM10 Kernel?

Yes, each ROM contains its own kernel.

I haven't found any significant change in battery life when switching kernels.

I have a noobie question just rooted and unlocked today. Can I flash the lean kernel without flashing a ROM? I am just looking for improved battery life. I have Verizon galaxy nexus, rooted, 4.1.1 . And if I don't like it do I have to flash my nandroid backup to get back to my original kernel? Thanks
