Root AOSenseP2beta--Updated 10/26/12--mini-update

Thanks Travis for keeping this updated...I have been busy as hell with work. I've been working on a few things, one being getting rid of or theming the remaining sense UI such as the file picker and APM menu. It is coming along nicely but it takes time to do it without breaking anything.
Have been playing around with the settings.apk and that has been a challenge and is very time consuming. I feel like I finally know what I'm doing but I'm short on patience.
My battery life has improved with changing all the faded out blak backgrounds for pure black and I think it really looks sharp.
If you are thinking of using any htc app on this rom it will most likely not work as almost all of the supporting pngs are gone.
I have tried the V5 kernel for the past week and have gone back to V4 because i get way better and more consistent performance. The ROM comes with the stock kernel and runs very smooth on it as well.
I still strongly recommend that you use the kingdom superwipe before flashing for best results. I will try to get something posted soon but for now there is the "beta" release on Travis' page and no I didn't know ....

Anyways.. i have spent a shitload of time on this project. ...even kanging takes a lot of time. It just doesn't work because you stick it all on one ROM an flash it. This is aqn open invitation to anyone that wants to get involved with the further development to hit me or Travis up. Please have some experience with adb, theming or something to contribute or be willing to make an effort to learn.

So no sense camera? thats the only thing I miss about sense, better than aosp camera by far in my opinion... also with this new beta does this mean its less of a hybrid and more aosp now?

Rookie question here...
After installing the latest Beta of this ROM (from Travis' visitor messages) via flashing the .zip, I immediately installed the V5 kernel.

I would like to re-install the stock kernel to see if I get better 3G & 4G reception vs the reception with the undervolted radios in the V5 kernel.
From the directions in the first post, it appears that I can just re-flash the ROM .zip and it won't overwrite any of my settings. Is that correct?

...or is there a better way to do get back to the stock kernel? I don't think I have a .zip for the current kernel, by itself.

You need to reflash the Rom to get stock kernel

yes that is 100% correct, if you simply reflash the rom it will not delete any settings that you currently have. However as HaydenM recommended when changing roms I'm urging you to ALWAYS use http://androidforums.com/attachment...-superwipe-evo-design-4g-kingdomsuperwipe.zip . however as you are simply reflashing the same rom, you're fine to simply reflash it to get back the stock kernal. Please let us know your results if there is any difference. It would be nice to know, or possibly even bring it up with 2fast himself (as that is his kernal that would be causing a decrease in network reception)

I re-flashed the ROM and it worked exactly as described. :)
I have brought it up to 2fast. He confirmed that all of his kernels undervolt the radios and inquired why I wanted to restore the stock voltages... but that was the extent of the conversation.

To try and give feedback that is objective, I installed RF Tracker from the Play market.
Here are the results with the stock kernel:

If my understanding of RSSI is correct, that less negative = stronger signal, then there is a small statistical difference in signal strength.
I have no idea what level of difference is noticeable though. :)

The above superwipe, shouldn't be needed at all flashing anything. Over the past two years with several emmc devices I have never once had a issue that needed anything of the sort. I also don't recommend constantly totally formating the partitions upon trying out a different rom. If you have a issue I would use it but if none is there I wouldn't.

As for the kernel I made causing signal issues. When it was built and tested on what ever I have built there was no difference. Or anything worth noting, the kernel also shouldn't touch the radio strength. It touches the wimax strength and wifi though. There can also be a issue in ports or something edited wrong where the signal is actually reported wrong or slow. Also with the kingdom holding your fingers over the two holes on the back cover will drop signal drastically. Followed by using a case of any sort that the holes aren't open on.

In turn it could be that issue as well. It could also be the difference in the kernel used vs the radio.

Less is stronger, how ever between the two I am seeing not really any difference worth noting. Besides the fact that the signal seems more stable on v4 compared to stock. Also keep in mind where as I said above, depending on how you hold the kingdom signal will be affected. Then even if you have it laying still signal will still jump around.

A quick clarification: I wasn't intending to suggest that the kernel was "causing signal issues". Rather, since the release notes for the kernel mentioned that the radios were undervolted, I was looking to use a stock kernel to test against the undervolted kernel to see if it made a difference.
Per your note, I just re-read the kernel notes and see that only the wimax and wifi are undervolted... so it looks like there should be no kernel impact on the 3G signal at all. (doh!)

FWIW, It has been interesting playing with RF Signal Tracker. Just have to find one that does the same for wimax.

I'm enjoying your ROM as my DD and looking forward to future releases.
I've been using it for a couple of days and the only issue I've had is that sometimes K-9 mail bogs down pretty bad when i open it. I suspect it may be because it is polling the 4 email accounts that I manage through that app.
 
Anyone else on either of the roms have black lock screen when music app running in back ground? It does not show my wallpaper until I unlock screen. When I kill music player my wallpaper shows again. Not really a issue just kind of annoying.
 
I've been running this for about an hour and a half (first rom tested on this phone) and it seems to be amazing in my point of view. The only major issue I've had was mms and that's already known, and when using the face camera the take pictures it messes up and it looks like staticy tv. So keep up the good work. I'm enjoying this very much. (:

Lower the resolution on the front camera.
 
Still working on getting a new release out, just had my laptop take a shit a few days ago so still trying to get everything reloaded...Thanks for your patience

Can anyone else confirm this please? I'm on Sprint, if that matters. Got to Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Add Account. Do you have the option to add an Exchange ActiveSync account, or does it go straight to prompting for a Google ID?

Just tested on my phone and it works like a champ without even changing perms...connect your phone and type the following ....

adb shell mount -o remount rw /system

adb push <path to SystemUI file on your computer followed by a space> /system/app/

adb reboot

I had never "pushed" a file with adb before.
I appreciate you breaking it down into simple steps for me. :)
 
well the update not work for me , fc every single thing , settings , phone , mms contacts etc etc , i do superwipe n install again in the same , dont work for me .
 
Try redownloading (The file may have been corrupted), try switching to that .apk that he linked above, wipe (in CWM) dalvik cache, data, cache. If none of that works, try switching to a different rom (such as cm10 or anything really other than one of the AOSenseP roms), run the rom, then wipe everything listed above and try switching back to the latest AOSenseP rom. If none of this works please post again and somebody more experienced than myself will help you with your issue.
