Hi Ironass

Excellent post you have created. Very useful for newbies like me.

My phone details are:

PDA: I9100XXKI3
PHONE: I9100XXKI3
CSC: I9100OXAKI3

I have a lot of questions, i would number them:

1. As per you post#2, OXA has got an update, as it is in bold. However, when I check for updates from my S2 or check for firmware update from kies, it shows no update. Why is that?

2. I read that I can change my CSC code. Is it an option that I change my CSC code to such CSC for which official ICS updates is available and then use kies for that updating? I know that might turn out to be a lame question, but can I use kies for updating, after changing my CSC?

3. Assuming that what I said in in 2nd point above is possible, and I decide to change my CSC, which CSC should I move to?

4. What is the difference between CSC and Product Code? I mean both represent the geographical territory right?
My CSC which is OXA is Open Europe and my Product Code turns out to be KOR... which is Korea i guess.. not sure... just to clarify that I checked it by *#272*imei no#

5. What are the risks in using Odin, other than the warranty void issue? can you please suggest any link/s?

6. If I use Odin to update to ICS, later on, can I use kies for future updates or not?

Thanks in advance.

1. As per you post#2, OXA has got an update, as it is in bold. However, when I check for updates from my S2 or check for firmware update from kies, it shows no update. Why is that?

OXA is Open Europe. There may be a number of reasons why an update is not being offered, as explained in post #1. These can include rooting, firmware, other than your CSC code, being flashed by yourself, Samsung Service Point and by the vendor, prior to sale.

EDIT It would appear that your original firmware was KOR after reading down.

2. I read that I can change my CSC code. Is it an option that I change my CSC code to such CSC for which official ICS updates is available and then use kies for that updating? I know that might turn out to be a lame question, but can I use kies for updating, after changing my CSC?

Some people have changed their CSC code to match the one shown on Kies. In your case, KOR. There are links to this method in earlier posts. This means that they have been able to update that firmware via Kies.

3. Assuming that what I said in in 2nd point above is possible, and I decide to change my CSC, which CSC should I move to?

As per the above, whatever CSC code that is shown by Kies. If you choose to flash another firmware, then, providing it has the language packs you require, which I guess is English which is contained in all firmware's, then the choice is your's. OXA is as good as any.

4. What is the difference between CSC and Product Code? I mean both represent the geographical territory right?
My CSC which is OXA is Open Europe and my Product Code turns out to be KOR... which is Korea i guess.. not sure... just to clarify that I checked it by *#272*imei no#

Now that I know that your product code is KOR, for Korea, it explains why you cannot update. This is the code that Kies recognises. some people report that changing this to, say, OXA, allows them to update via Kies. I have not tried this personally.

5. What are the risks in using Odin, other than the warranty void issue? can you please suggest any link/s?

Personally, I prefer to use Odin as I find this the safest and most reliable method. Favourite mistake with Odin is flashing the firmware of a phone model which is not your own, i.e. the G or P or US variants.

6. If I use Odin to update to ICS, later on, can I use kies for future updates or not?

Not unless you choose to flash the KOR firmware or successfully change your code to OXA.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums keybaaru! :)

You have the Samsung Galaxy S2, "G", variant.

Your CSC code is OJP.

Samsung Kies is showing your code as THR.

This would indicate that your phone has had the OJP firmware flashed on to the THR, (Iran), phone. See post #1 for reasons this may happen.

This is why Kies is showing that you have no updates as the latest version for THR is Android 2.3.6.

If you wish to update your, "G", variant phone to Android 4.0.3, you will need to flash the OJP firmware via Odin using the instructions in post #1 under the heading, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!.

hello. confused again. i see PDA, PHONE and CSC having the same letters. but the letters on my PDA and PHONE doesn't match, i'm thinking someone messed with this phone real good before i bought it. so is there a way to revert back to the original firmware? i mean just cancel those things you call flash. and if its not difficult for you, can you please tell me what firmware to download (original and official as per my phone specs). Thank you in advance again. :D

If you bought this phone as new, you could take it to a Samsung Service Point and explain your problem and ask them to flash it for you.

Otherwise, there is no 100% way of knowing what the out-of-the-box firmware for this phone was. You do not know how many times it has been flashed

The best thing is to follow my instructions in post #481...

For Kies connection problems, see post #1, under, "Problem connecting to Kies", or threads in the General forum.

Just did a search as you so kindly provided in post one, and then post two.

Im on CSC i9100VODLP9 and PDA: i9100BULPD

I went to SamMobile site, searched i9100VOD, and they have now upgraded to i9100VODLPB and i9100BULPG, respectively. BUT, it is still only android 4.0.3 WTF?

So, if I wanted android operating system 4.0.4 I cant? Or can I update it to Jellybean another way?

I dont want to F up the phone, but Im ready for Jellybean! :)

There has been no official Samsung release for the GT-i9100 for Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.x, (Android 4.0.4 is ICS), yet... so you cannot update to it!

Ugh. The stupid Note got 4.0.4 before their previous flagship device! Now that is poor business. Lol

Thanks for the clarification. Guess I'll just keep pouting. ;)

There are lots of Samsung official Android 4.0.4 firmwares for the GT-i9100 that have been out since June!

Android 4.0.4 was not released for the Note, (N7000), until a month later.

Wait a minute, am I confusing numbers?? Is jellybean 4.0.4 or 4.1.x?

My i9100 is still on 4.0.3 while my galaxy tab 10.1 (first one) is on 4.0.4...

Further ICS updates to Android 4.0.4...

Hello, I realise this is reply to something a while ago, but I've got exactly the same CSC as stargasm, I9100OXAKI4, which someone said is not available for ICS yet. Does anyone know if this is still true? I got an S2 yesterday and it's rooted with this CSC, on gingerbread. I can't connect it to kies (I've followed the threads and tried all the suggestions) and I'm not sure what to do. I've bought, perhaps rashly, Mobile ODIN Pro, but now I'm kind of stuck!

I'm averagely techie for a bloke, but I'd really much rather do it a simple and official way if possible. I bought the phone from my local second-hand phone shop, as my previous phone (an S1) had a bust screen and I didn't think it worth repairing. However, I really don't want to be stuck on gingerbread on this new phone. Thoughts much appreciated.

hey guys,
is the latest official one still LPX???
or any later 4.0.4 out after LPX.
i guess LPY was released later but with an older changelist??
thank you.

Hi! If you look in #2 you find OXA being bold in the section "Open Europe". So there is a ICS available for your phone.

As you have rooted now (whitch ever way you chose), you obviously can't use KIES for an update. Mobile Odin maybe probably works (i never used it).

As you seem to be a beginner. I would suggest:
1. Read #1 carefully
2. get Odin and an OXA Firmware from Sammobile
3. Flash your phone to ICS.

This would revert rooting. Your phone would be pure stock. If ever you would like to root again. Get the suiting CF-Kernel. Flash it via ODIN and you have ICS and a rooted phone.
