I believe it's hardware related. I read an article on it a while back. If I understand correctly the 2000 panel doesn't detect multitouch points and track each one specifically. It's more that detects two touch points and uses a histrogram to determine their locations. That's why it's just fine at pinch and zoom, because they can measure the peeks on the histogram, but it gets confused when those two peaks get very close to each other, and that causes the confusion when tracking the points as they cross each others' axis.

I'm sure they can try to mitigate this a bit with software, but from what I understand there's no way to completely accurately track multiple points in the way that the ClearPad 3000 does.

I apologize if any of this isn't completely accurate, it's just what I recollect form the article I saw shortly after the whole touchpad issue was announced.
Why do you think there isn't a phone with ClearPad 3000 yet?

It was announced 8 month ago, is that a short time? How long does it take to develop a phone? From design, to hardware choices, to software development, to release...

I completely agree. Sense, and the sexyness that is sleek black with red accents etc. It's just one of those phones people will stop you and ask what it is, or ask you if they can play with it. I was never a fan of the Droid looks, although from what I can tell the Shadow does look better, but it still has a keyboard and that to me still looks toyish.

HDMI isn't a deal breaker for me either, just something I'd use... I'll get by with just having it on my laptop for now ;)

To me all these touchscreen phones are getting pretty plain. Like the HD2, that's a box with a giant screen, and that's it. The phone's design isn't as important as that gorgeous display. That said, I like that HTC is adding some style in unusual places such as the red inside/accent buttons. The Droid has some gold accents which aren't bad but its not my favorite phone.

As far as HDMI out on a phone goes, I can't imagine a scenario where I'd use the phone over some other device. If I was somewhere, say didn't have internet, my xbox/ps3, laptop, and I felt like streaming netflix or something to a tv, then maybe at that point I'd use that feature. That would also require me to carry around the HDMI cable, that TV to have an HDMI input, the miniHDMI > HDMI cable or converter, my phone charger, and would also mean that I wouldn't be using my phone during this viewing. But that is a rare, rare occasion. Any other time I feel as if I'd have a better means to watch. To me the beauty of the handset is being able to watch these things on the go, not on a TV. Why would I want to take a MOBILE device and pair it with my TV, I feel like I have enough devices for that already, not to mention the incredibly limited storage space on a phone (32gb? vs. potential TB's). That's also trusting the streaming quality of Netflix over VZW. There's just a lot of IF's to that scenario....

but in the end my view is always, why not at least have the option (as long as its not sacrificing other features/functions). :)

really dosn't seem fair does it:(:p

My husband doesn't have a smart phone but i do. Wait... maybe he does have a "smart phone"... It was accessing the internet on its own and racking up data charges. Had to take it back to verizon and have them uninstall some software. To this day it still tries to do things on its own.

HDMI is a must!!! Anytime you want to show off the latest pron you downloaded on your unlimited data plan :D

It is my understanding that Verizon limits the size of files you can download anyway so you would have to download your PRON to your computer first then transfer to your phone or is this only on blackberry's? (yes I know you were joking- just wondering about the download size though)

good points, all. Your laptop must have an HDMI port? Mine doesn't unfortunately. Right now I use RCA plugs for the Netflix, which really sucks...

I was thinking more about just playback of video I'd recorded on a bigger screen, like "gather round, everyone, check this out."

At home it wouldn't matter, but out and about, say at a friend's house, you're right, you would need to have your cable and charger handy

Maybe you meant to quote someone else? I have no idea if there are ClearPad 3000 screens in production somewhere yet. I was just commenting on the 2000's issues.

If the Incredible had the 3000, or some other multi-touch capable screen that'd be great news, although I also wouldn't be surprised if it had the same screen as the Nexus One either.

All very valid points. Reminds me of when I first got my BB Curve... I thought how cool it was that I had the internet on my phone...

It didn't take all that long for me to stop using it for the internet unless I needed something, like a score or the weather, because it was slow and the browser sucked. (Opera is better, but it's still kinda slow)

This could be another time where the idea in my head is better than the end result will be lol

Not at all, but if his wife is anything like mine, she's not very tech savvy. My wife cares more about the prettiness and if she can use her nails on the screen then what is in the phone. :D

Just giving him sh**t- in my house it's the opposite, hubby doesn't need/want smartphone. I'm the one that likes all the tecky toys.:D

Skynet is trying to get out......

Thanks for schooling me. I'm not married and single at the moment.
EDIT - NEVER had a need to go into a maternity store!

Stealing is bad. Mmmmmkay?

I won't tell if you don't.

I... no, we ALL expect a report from you tomorrow ;)

All right, so I grabbed a tummy pillow and waddled into Verizon. I do know how to pregnancy waddle, after all. I started very early signs of labor. I yelled "Is there a doctor in the house?" Verizon reps ended up scurrying from whatever they were doing to come see. One of them asked me what was wrong. I grabbed his arm and looked him in the eyes. "I'm having a baby." He got a terrified look on his face. "I'll call an ambulance!" I grabbed his arm in a death grip and growled out. "There's no time, you idiot. I am having this baby now!" The other reps are looking at each other panicked at this point. "Are you sure?!" Other reps were finding their voices now. I looked at the questioning person with as close to the fury of a woman in labor I could muster. "OF COURSE I'M SURE!! THIS AIN'T MY FIRST RODEO!!!" I screamed and doubled a little, my grasp tightened on the poor guy's arm. Hopefully I don't have a unique hand size, because this is gonna leave evidence. "What do we do? What do we do?!"

A panicked rep was litterally running in circles now. He ran by me and I grabbed his arm. "Stop panicking and stressing out the woman in labor!" He was white as a ghost. Another employee's eyes lit up like he got an idea. He ran to the back to get the manager. He and the manager emerged. The manager pauses is disbelief and fear for a moment then runs to me. "I was present at my wife's labor. Maybe I can help until the paramedics get here?" 'I'm screwed now' I think. I am going along with this labor bs when an idea of brilliance strikes me. "I'm a high risk pregnancy!" Fear has struck this man's face again while most the others have no idea what I am talking about. "Oh, no. Umm...Ummm....Don't panic!!" I made a show of almost fainting at this point. "Please, I don't want to lose this baby and I can't leave my husband and 2 year old. They need me!!!" The manager stammers while people are panicking. The assistant manager looks at his boss, "I think you should pull *it* out, Stan."

"But, Richard. It is still a secret."

"It may be their only hope, Stan! Screw corporate and all their secrets!" Stan thinks for a minute and I scream again, begging for help. Stan nods and runs to the back. He emerges with a box. As he is running back to me he is ripping the box open. He holds a phone up and there are stares and murmurs from all the employees. "A phone?!" I shout in anger. "How the heck is that supposed to help?!" He powers it on. Wow, I have never seen a smartphone power on and be ready for use so fast! I am having to try hard not to drool over the phone. He quickly downloads an app. By quickly, I mean almost instantly. Boy, do I need this phone. He puts the phone on the ground and it transforms!!!

Yes, it transforms into a robot. It makes it's way closer and I grab it and take off running. It struggles until I tell it "Stop. I am taking you to people who will worship you as the true piece of amazing machinery you are." It then stopped fighting. The VZW people were hot on my heals. The phone downloaded another app. I got a quick glance at the name. The ScarFace app. There were gunshots. A lot of them. It took a long time. More VZW employees kept coming out of no where. In red shirts, suits, black cars. The phone downloaded another app. A Harry Potter app. Next thing I know, a cloak of invisibility is around us. We made our escape. I got to a safe place to stop and used it to come here and let you all know where the meeting point is.

If you thought this was real, there is no hope for you. I hope to have provided a laugh or two.

that's funny, I had the same experience with the internet on my phone. But it should be different this time.

We're on to something with the HDMI, though. It really does simplify things

Very true, I was more thinking that if I didn't have my laptop with me. One of the things I'm hoping this phone will allow me to do is not have to bring my laptop everywhere.

I was on vacation a couple weeks ago and I unhooked the DVD player where I was staying and hooked up my laptop through HDMI to watch movies.. If I didn't have my laptop and could do it through my phone I just think that would be a pretty cool feature. Again, by no means necessary and not something I'd use all that often either way (especially if I couldn't plug in the phone while playing the movie, can't imagine the battery drain that would be).

That definitely would be a convenient feature to have - especially on vacation. My question is, with wifi connectivity within a home and so many devices being connected wirelessly to a central router, I wonder how long it is before Android (if they don't have it already) has the capabilities of sharing multimedia to devices within the network? For instance, without the need for an HDMI cable I can stream HD quality movies between my DVR, my home computer, my PS3, and my laptop. If I had an application that allowed me to do that with my phone as well, then I wouldn't necessarily need an HDMI port - at least within my home network.

It was discussed a while ago and is on the evergreen thread. The incredible does not have the multi touch issue of the N1. I don't know if it is a software or hardware fix, but it's supposedly not a problem.

Regarding that picture that is floating around about the 150,000 units sitting in the warehouse.....

I have my verizon guy ( a personal friend for 20 years who owns a Wireless Zone store) looking into it.

He has called the "head" of the warehouse and will get back to me with the response.

that would be something wouldn't it? The whole wireless thing would make all of this moot, huh?

The wonders of the modern age....

Any word from NKT if the inventory numbers changed ..last I remember the screen was showing 0

And I believe that the dates had not updated as he said normally does daily.

No word from him on any updates yet. But rest assured that if he does see something newsworthy, he'll let us know quickly. He always has been very dependable
