I don't know of a good guide which works for our specific version of Android. What I had to do for the feature I added to Curtis' ROM is read a bunch of older guides to get the basic ideas and also decompiled other Gingerbread ROMs for further information. You would need to make changes to Smali code in android.policy.jar, framework.jar as well as images and XML in framework-res.apk. Then add a lib, a bin file with specific permissions and a screenshot system app from CM7. It took a lot of trial and error.
