Help Couple of newbie question

Hi all,

new around here (and to andriod O/S), just got my new Note2 on contract in the UK with T-Mobile, which has 4.1.1 on.

Couple of questions regarding the phone and accessories:

1. Now if I root my phone, does it automatically become unlocked on any network?
I'm sure there are many threads on rooting this phone, can someone point me to good one, that they know works for uk based phones.

2. Anyone recommend a good Note 2 Cases?
I tend to buy the otterbox defender series cases, as I'm one of these people that tends to drop things. However there isn't one available (yet)
I'm after something that can offer similar protection.

3. Is there any way of taking a photo of the phone screen? I know you can do this on the iphone4.

4. There is a like a tab bar that appears - with shortcuts - when i'm looking at emails / home page / web browsing if i click on it then it shows shortcuts to other apps etc. its annoying. i can move it to different sides - lhs/rhs/top / bottom. but can i delete it, as I think its pointless! The link are on my homepage so ill just go there

sure I will have more as i start using the phone.

Hi, I'm a UK GN2 user (on Giff-Gaff) and also new to Android.

I can answer questions 3 and 4:

3: If you swipe across the whole screen left to right with your palm/base/side of your hand it will take a screenshot. You can turn this on/off at the bottom of the 'motion' settings menu.

4: To get rid of the tab you long press the back button. Same again to get it back. The reason the tab is there is for genuine multi-tasking. With the tab open you can drag one app to the top of the screen, one to the bottom and use both at the same time!

With regards to Q3, another way to screenshot is to hold down on the S-Pen button and then hold the pen down on the screen. This will screenshot and the open the image for editing/annotating automatically.

I'm pretty certain that the Samsung Android phones are not actually locked to the the vendor you get them from on contract in the UK. Not 100% but fairly certain.

One way to test it would be to put someone else's SIM in and see what happens.

If you are locked in then rooting will not automatically unlock it. It just allows you to give programs the administrative rights to do things like that.
