Wow...that article on Apple stopping the sales of HTC phones is very disturbing. I'm wondering if this might indeed be a problem?

Oh...and thank you for the reassurance about Google Nav being either loaded...or available. I wonder if a car dock will be available so that the phone can be mounted like a typical gps nav unit?

Don't worry about that. They are only suing to stop the sales and only the courts can do that.

From reading the report it looks like they have temporarily stopped the sales. Sounds like a court has already ruled....although I find it suspect since I haven't seen this information elsewhere. For reference...here's the link again....

My guess is there will be a lot of accessories for this phone like their is for the Delmonte brand.

If I may, I'll quote myself from an earlier post:

There seems to be conflicting stories here about the Apple Sauce mess, so at this point there's no sense in getting hung up about it. Until something is said officially by Sprint or someone else of authority on the subject, I don't think we should worry about it. What I read before was this thing could go on for years, but more than likely it will be settled out of court. No doubt Mr. Jobs would like to stall the release of the EVO 4G, but I highly doubt HTC and Sprint would be moving forward the way they are if they thought the lawsuit was going to cause problems. That's my 2 cents.

That's okay, andiron. I like it when you come here and ask questions. I know you're still teetering toward the Incredible, but I think the EVO 4G is going to win you over.

Yes Bill, I would say I'm now definitely leaning hard towards the EVO....but of course wonder about how it will feel in hand...when it will be released...and price for the phone and the WiMax plan. Still curious to see the Incredible and hear what people have to say....but as of now I would say:

The EVO 4G is the way to go....especially if you live in a WiMax area (and I do!)....and especially if they don't raise rates for their plans. I like the shared plan that has every mobile included. This makes all my families phones, regardless of carrier, shared. If the phone is as great as it appears...and has all these things going for it...it would be hard to find a reason to leave Sprint.

Btw. I put a couple of posts over in the Incredible forum....one of them quite lengthy....about the EVO and how a few of those guys might want to check the EVO out. Gotta tread lightly because people feel fiercely loyal and or passionate about their service providers. I tread lightly and got out in one piece....but not sure I won anyone over. To me it all boils down to a phone with a larger screen, hdmi out, cheaper plans, WiMax.
And out of all of those factors I would say WiMax is the most important. If you live in Tumbleweed Texas you might not care about the EVO...but in a WiMax hotspot city you SHOULD be VERY curious. It's gonna scorch the competition. So yes...I'm here with ya. Very carefully appraising the situation....it's what i do! LOL :D

Apple is just getting desperate and doesn't want anyone else to take the headlines away from them.

Btw I do own an iPhone...but will be making the EVOlution to 4G the day that badboy is released!!! I'm not like those brain washed applesause users that wait in line all night for an oversized iPod (ipad)....sometimes those fanatics remind me of the episode of Southpark where everyone starts driving hybrid cars.

Question: anyone know if the EVO will have a coating on the screen to prevent fingerprints and such?
 
Its no biggie, I wasted more on a six pack of beer. lol

But to be honest, I doubt we may get more info from the source over there, cause the members were a bit rough. And he hasn't posted anything after his main few posts that are already outlined here and in Phandroid.com.

Welcome MaterKoiFish. Thank you for coming over to the other side. As far as the coating thing, that question has been asked here before, but I don't think it has been answered. Heck, we're not even totally sure what type of screen the EVO will have. Stay tuned, we should more over the next couple of weeks.
 
Hey Bill, I wasn't around when you followed up about how Froyo works earlier, but I read your posts about it just now... I think an important point is that the writers of the article you linked didn't get any inside info, but they're just re-reporting the engadget scoop, and they're adding some extra words to the story.

They say: "Named "Froyo", Google's next Android version will be detached of the usual set of first party applications and core components that currently populate the OS. Instead of bundling those applications with the operating system, Google will instead make them available through the Android Market for download. This is currently how updates to Google Maps are handled on Android."

And Engadget's words are: "We've been given reason to believe that the company will start by decoupling many of Android's standard applications and components from the platform's core and making them downloadable and updatable through the Market, much the same as they've already done with Maps."

So, yes, the "platform core" will be a separate component from programs like maps, gmail, google nav, etc, which will be upgradeable through the market, but you can bet that when you get a new android phone, even the most stripped down "Google Experience" phones with no Sense or extra UI features, it will have all the usual google apps installed. It does mean, however, that IF a manufacturer or user wanted to make a stripped down rom with no extras, it would be much easier, but that doesn't make any sense for most companies that want you to have the full experience right out of the box. Their example that maps is already handled that way is a good hint, I mean it's included in every rom that comes out on new phones, it just happens to be updateable through the market without waiting for an OS update which will be the case for more components with Froyo.

I agree that this isn't something to argue about, and really we'll just have to wait and see how it works when it happens as all there is to go on now is the engadget article and our own interpretation of their words.

On another topic, I'm watching Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon right now, and the head editor from Engadget is a guest.... I'm 100% sure he'll be showing off an iPad, but maybe he has an EVO to show off also???? Probably not, but I can hope!
 
Welll, there was no EVO demo, just the iPad... It's funny how much more capable a device the EVO is than apple's new toy which will make them billions of dollars.

Unrelated to all this, I was thinking today as I was driving and using my winmo 6.1 device to play streaming radio through the stereo, and have google maps running in front, and then popping open opera mini to check a site at a long stop light, all at once, how I hope that either htc, as a part of Sense, or google with their next os update, will implement a built in task switcher.

With winmo and some addons I use such as wktask and quickmenu, each program is on the taskbar like desktop windows. I've noticed that Dell's mini5 or streak has a similar implementation in their custom android overlay that looks like it would work pretty well. Ideally though, it would be so perfect if htc made something similiar to their "helicopter view" of the home screens, but have it show open programs instead, maybe with a double tap of the home button or some other gesture. Every task switcher I've seen for android is a plain list and nowhere near as cool as Palm's card system which htc could even top with the helicopter view. What do you all think?

I checked out an HD2 and it has a TFT LCD with a glossy glass front which does easily show all fingerprints and grease.
 
I read they are working out making 720p video recording look better. I really wish we could get a sample vid. I hope its comparable or better than the Omnia HD. Oh also I hope the audio quality when recording is good cause the Nexus One is terrible.
 
Hi guys, glad to have just signed up here. As many others have stated along the way, this seems like a very nice and respectful community, and I'm glad to have joined it. Been following this thread since like Page 4 and love seeing the daily progression so far.

I'm so excited for the Evo and have been tracking rumors on it for months (Pre -> Touch Pro 2 -> Snapdragon Processors -> Hero -> HD2 -> Supersonic -> Evo). I have been eligible for an upgrade since last August! Almost went with the Pre or Touch Pro 2, but knew that something better would be along with a keyboard I can actually use hopefully, a big great touchscreen and software/firmware with a processor that runs well. I'm dying for this phone, its all that and a digital camera to boot.

I finally conviced myself to join up because I found an article that interested me greatly. It compares the Evo, Galaxy-S, Droid, and Iphonewon't. It is a blog post, but this guy Electrofreak knows his stuff it seems and has a very unassuming style since he doesn't really jump to premature conclusions. He would fit in here well (maybe he is here already and I forgot.)

The main point of the article is to compare the Samsung 'Hummingbird' chipset likely on the Galaxy-S to the 'Snapdragon' and 'Snapdragon 2/Scorpion' chipsets. Its somewhat in depth and technical, but if I can understand it, anyone should be able to.

I don't want to get too off topic or rain on the Evo parade, but the reason it ingrigued me so much was because I read recently (in this topic or an article someone linked here) that Sprint was maybe adding 2 Samsung phones coming up in June? I am somewhat hopeful for the rumored Galaxy-S Pro. It is rumored to be the Galaxy-S with a physical keyboard. Someone on the net mocked one up (kind of like how Billsmed mocked up a Supersonic with a keyboard)

Galaxy-S Pro will likely have a 4" Super AMOLED screen, a bit better processor than the Evo allegedly and a physical keyboard I could use with my giant Gorilla fingers (the LG Aloha a few pages back was another keyboard option too). If the Evo had a physical keyboard it would be the ultimate device for me.

I have tried many touchscreen keyboards in store and they always make me want to Hulk out start smashing things. :mad: I even traveled to the great beyond, a t-mobile store in a shady neighborhood, to try out the HD2's touch screen keyboard and had trouble functioning it. I realize there is a learning curve for touchscreen that may take a few days to get used to, but I dont want to drop cash and have regrets if a physical keyboard version of a decent phone comes out a few weeks later.

One last thing that concerns me is screen protection for a touchscreen phone since I'm a pocket carrier. Does anyone have any good suggestions for protecting a touchscreen whilst maintaining optimal touchability? I'd hate to scratch up my precious new Evo, or not be able to utilize its full potential by using a poor protector.

Apologies for my long winded-ness, can't wait to get my Evo.
 
I've been following this forum for quite sometime now and have found it to have great info on the EVO. I don't know that I have ever been so caught up in a phone in all my life. This thing is driving me crazy waiting for the time in which I can hold it in my hands. You know I have always said that the anticipation of something like this is part of the fun but its getting to the point that I hang on every word I read for new info. Well I'm running on here thanks to everyone who has put in countless hours researching and bringing us the goods on this phone.
