Scott Forstall is out

His yacht is rather gorgeous. I know a lot of folks wanted to trash it saying it was boring, bland, ugly, etc. But I personally like it.
Have to agree, it's got to be frustrating for folks who bought the iPad 3 a month or so ago seeing it already replaced. Can't imagine Jobs would allow that.

Did you post this in the right forum haha ;)

And i know Jobs wouldn't release something to screw over his customers like that :(

I think it's hard to disagree with the beauty that is there PCs/laptops (aside from the "toaster" one ;)). iPhone, on the other hand, blah.

I believe they do have a trade in program for those who bought the iPad3 in the past "x" amount of time though, so that's nice. Folks with N7s are getting mad about the 32Gb just being released when they bought a 16Gb not too long ago.

MS might. Have they ever apologized for anything?

Quite possible, or even RIM? Don't know much of his background in design but looked like he jived with Ive quite a bit on philosophy. Duarte certainly breathed new air into Android, but not sure the iOS design would help MS all that much. Win8/Metro seems to be set in stone to what they're doing going ahead.

Google might have done some apologizing to Apple when they had the patent talks after Apple sued Sammy.

I agree with Digital Controller, Jobs is gone, apple is going downhill. Steve rolled over in his grave when iOS6 maps came out I'm sure.

interesting article...

but i dont agree with the design issues they point out by the industry.

the reference back to real textures and looks.. brings people some comfort.

people are a visual by nature. we love our toys, and devices, but we also want to feel comfortable. little cues that help a person relate to a cold device screen is a good thing.

I enjoyed the article as well. I find that Apple has a nice feel when using the software. Remember Steve was older and I can see him tying life into software especially for his age demographic.

I think the digital life is lacking in personality sometimes. I think it will be a shame if Apple goes minimalistic, then it will look like every other OS.

I really enjoy, I guess you would call them organic wallpapers. Nature and stuff. Not just blank screens. But I'm old school for my age.

But if you like the design - it's static, and won't bring designers any new business. Doesn't Apple Skin? or is that only Android? (My C6 Nokia did) It will depend on who is driving the market. If it's young techy or pseudo techy types - they will want new.
Older users won't. Older users also may not want to upgrade, either. So it's cost and effect.

Gets to the point where it's stupid. Look at household appliances. Except for more efficiency, what the hell can you do with a stove or fridge? It has to do its job, and certain forms do the job best. Those that design can't do much more to it, so they add stuff like the ability for the item to tell you time and temp, which isn't really a big improvement.

So Steve Jobs rescues Apple from near bankruptcy, hurtles them to one of the top (if not the top if you figure in liquid assets) tech company in the world, and the replacement people pick over his design flair?

Small wonder their stock is dropping and is nearly $100 less per share than Google, even after Google took that huge hit a few weeks ago.

apple look has become dated.. .yes.
it needs a refresh.. something new and innovative.

but it still has to keep the organic feel to the visual ques. graphical UI's human touch. is that not one of the aspects that many want android to bring to it's UI?

age has nothing to do with this. people/humans are visual! and we like to feel comfortable. windows new UI is cool, but cold in nature... i think they need to add a little more organic feel back into it.

I just realized that Scott Forstall is single-handedly responsible for all the stupid, gimmicky design aesthetics in iOS. He's responsible for the photo-realistic aspects of iOS apps, like the physical bookshelf in iBooks, the leather-bound notepad/organizer, et. al. So I think Tim Cook made the right decision kicking his ass out, Siri and Maps fallout aside.
