Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I've been lurking around here for quite a while but haven't quite made the decision on which "summer" phone to get. Thanks to all the wonderful information you all have provided, the EVO will be my first smartphone and I will be retiring my ever-so-lousy enV touch and Verizon service after 8 years.

The enV touch was also my first touch phone (yeah, I have little phone experience) and it has really left me feeling bitter towards touch phones. But I'm hoping that is just a flaw of the enV and the EVO will be much better!
Welcome...don't feel too bad, I've never had a touch phone period :p

Ok well, a few preliminary findings. I could not find evidence of granted injunction. So I believe we will just have htc "answer" the complaint within 30 days.

I find it curious that apple filed on 20 infringements, making it very troublesome to litigate. In addition, the patents seem very generalized and could apply to half the smart phones out there. It looks like on its face the complaint is seeking some type of generalized settlement once Htc files their infringement complaint ( oh they will).

I gotta tell you I have the iPad right now and it is simply amazing. Makes casual email, Internet liquid smooth.

Edit: I copied the post over to the Official iPad thread located here.

Ok well someone maybe can give brief instruction on attaching images?!

Lol.

Has there been any developments or anything new on the EVO 4G this weekend?
I don't know of any other than what's been posted in this thread...it's kind of hard when a new Apple product rolls out and every tech site has infinite posts about it....cough*Engadget&Gizmodo*cough :p

At least Engadget realizes this though (non-Apple version of site)

Some people have been wanting to talk about the new product here, but this is the EVO forum. I don't know about you, but I have no interest and I hate promoting Apple products. Is that just me?

Seeing all the iPad videos and info is getting me excited to see what htc will come up with to top Apple in the tablet world. With a custom implementation of android with widgets and multitasking galore, I think they could scare apple enough to invoke a few more lawsuits (it seems like all apple can do when they're being outpaced in technological progress is sue the competition, they want to hold off on new features to entice users to upgrade later but get mad when the competition leapfrogs them). But I do admit, it is impressive to see so many new applications being developed so quickly for the iPad and there are some pretty cool ones. I doubt android devs would be so quick to produce for an htc tablet.

Not at all. I washed my hands of all Apple products awhile ago. I used to be the biggest Mac elitist out there til I became wise to the fact that their products are designed to suck as much money out of you as possible.

There was a lot of talk earlier about the Apple lawsuit and it's casting doubt about the EVO 4G, which is a shame. The rumors keep circulating around this issue and Apple is winning on that front, even if they can't win in the courtroom. I'm a little pissed at Jobs for going after HTC and I definitely don't want to talk about his new feminine hygiene product in this forum.

I think he is just worried because he knows HTC is the biggest contributor to the Android platform. After all, the best Android phones on the market are designed by HTC. No offense to the Droid..

You are sooooo right Bill. This is a "no-digital-kotex" forum dedicated to the BEST PHONE IN THE WORLD. Lets pursue that.

that pic makes me realize something. there is no mute switch. i guess there is just an app for that.

Yeah the lack of hardware buttons/switches is going to be the hardest thing for me to adapt to. With my current htc device, even though the touch screen works fine, I always use the hardware buttons to launch the browser, launch the mail app, pull up the dialer, end a call, switch to roaming only mode with a long press, pull up a task/app launcher, scroll pages with the volume wheel, turn on the led flashlight with a long press, turn off the screen only without going to sleep mode, pull up the camera, rotate the screen, turn on/off wifi, etc etc... And that's all without sliding out the hard keyboard or touching the screen.

I think the popularity of the iphone is responsible for htc making the move towards devices with minimal hardware buttons/switches, because before the iphone they loved em. I do wish they had one line of sleek stylish phones like the evo, and another line for geeks that want to be able to customize tons of buttons to do tons of things directly. But I'm not complaining: the evo is awesome, I'm happy with their design, and I will get used to using it.

i didnt realize you could do all that with the buttons lol. with my pre, i use the touchscreen and gesture area (which i will miss) for everything.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to somehow make it so that all you have to do is hold down the screen lock button on the top to toggle bw ringer and vibrate.

i was reading another article about the evo video on youtube, and couldnt stop laughing when i read the end of this sentence,
"If you go take a look at HTC’s YouTube channel, you can find a video called, “HTC Evo 4G for Sprint (NYSE: S) USA First Look”, and yes, it’s as good as it sounds. With a dancy, upbeat, electronic soundtrack guiding you through all the great features of the Evo, you may need a bib."

great pics comparing the evo to the desire:
HTC EVO 4G vs. HD2 and Desire... fight! -- Engadget
The news was so slow coming in on the Supersonic, especially in January and February. That's when I started the poll asking people if they gave up on the Supersonic. This whole forum was completely dead at that time. Then when the HTC Desire was announced at MWC back in February, I thought it had possibilities, especially if the Supersonic didn't materialize. The Desire was like the Nexus One with Sense UI and I liked it. I was quite smitten with it actually, but now that the EVO 4G has been announced, I have no Desire for it.

Bill,

This is a phone forum. As much as I appreciate your input, don't emasculate every other new tech that other forum members might be interested in as a supplement to their phones on an occasional basis.

I really like this phone and I'm beginning to believe it will replace my 3GS. But don't exclude other in-between products as a subscriber I want to know what other subscribers are doing and I can make that choice for myself.

And THIS is an EVO 4G/WiMax thread/forum.

There are plenty of other places to talk about other things.

Hey, Techman. Sorry if I'm causing hard feelings, but I'm not trying to scare anyone off. I really appreciate your comments, but there are other places or forums where people can talk about whatever product they want. This just happens to be the EVO 4G forum and most of the people that come here are coming for information on that phone and not so they can learn about Apple products. Other threads have been closed because they went off topic and I don't want that to happen here. Thank you for your understanding.
