So here in Michigan we had high winds Monday and Tuesday. Our power was fine.

Today? The power is out!

I like it when the power goes out! lol

My wife and daughter, especially my daughter who's in her mid twenties was throwing a fit as if the world was coming to an end! lol

Well, we're all Android smartphone addicts with dying phone batteries. I laughed at them saying "I done told you to buy spare batteries! I got three spares!"

So, I pulled the massive battery out of my truck, washed it clean in the bathtub, plopped it behind the end table, hooked up my power inverter with a power strip and saved the day (And perhaps my daughter's life)! lol

I got this big power strip sitting on the end table with their two phones and my desktop charger on it. I guess I'll name it the Android watering hole!

So are you one of those who freak out when the power dies in your household???

Reminds me of when my neighbours internet died. They came over begging for my wifi password. I had a second router so I set them up for the few days until their provider got them going.

I hate life without net connectivity, not many power outages here but when I am disconnected it sucks. Last time my modem died I relied on my smartphone to keep in touch.

That's all I have is my smartphone. :) I did just add the unlimited tethering feature though. I do most all of my surfing on the phone anyways. :)

As far as living without the web? I dream of a time sometime soon I will unplug forever.

Life without a net huh? Be careful and don't slip :) The net is easily my largest source of entertainment. It would be extremely difficult to deny myself it's pleasure.
I do not freak out when I lose power but I'm always ready for it to come back on long before it does.

I dream of that day too... I look forward to it, but I know that it will hurt.

I feel you on that... :(

It's a philosophical thing with me, pining for simpler times. :)

It to get all of my entertainment from the net.

If I had the money, I would move so far into the woods in a cabin where there was no service. :)

Well, this is fun! I got to hang flashlights from the ceiling to cook dinner!

I was going to turn in early this evening, but with a snoring wife and no fan to drown her out? It ain't happening! lol

A friend of mine had his power shut off back in the day, and we had a car stereo and some speakers hooked up to a car battery in his apartment so we could enjoy some tunes while we drank beer by candlelight. So I think that beats charging smartphones in the hillbilly sweepstakes lol.

When that windstorm came through Ohio a couple years ago, our power was out for like five days. I charged my Android and my psp at work, I had a book light, candles, and a battery operated radio, it didn't really bother me that much.

go to walmart and buy those solar power lights they stay on all night :)

I would get bored just watching movies all the time I would need to surf the net for some other form of entertainment an the ability to state my opinion somewhere :D

Believe it or not, I have in the past wired up car stereos in the house on a drinking night when I did have a home stereo! lol

Thank god we have underground power lines where we live in the city. Lost power a total of maybe 3 hours in the passed 4 years. Tethered to watch some Hulu both times. We're pathetic I know. :o:D

Man I'm FREAKEN COLD! Any pointers on keeping warm???

Darn smartphone does everything, but it ain't keeping me warm! lol

Maybe I'll punch a hole in the roof and put a fire pit in the living room... Bwa! Ha ha ha! :D :thrasher:

When I lived in my apartment in Kansas I didn't have heat for a winter outside of a small space heater. It's a long story but it would hover around 50-55 for the most part. My dumb phone at the time was not heating me up for sure!

I know of a few games that will make my phone pretty warm, so there's that. The downside is they kill the battery fast too.

@OP

I knows whatcha means.

I live in a small subdivision with above ground power lines. Oftentimes a bad wind/storm leads to no power and being a small subD ComEd puts us last on the list.

Couple years ago I was without power 5 out of 9 days.

Supposedly we don't get our power back till Saturday. It's all good though, others had it much worse...

I can live without the phone and internet - but a power outage today is not good.

We got zapped with a hurricane years ago. My parents, being collectors, renters, and dirt poor had the answer. We cooked and heated with kerosene, and my mother had saved all the kerosene lamps. The icebox was old enough to use ice. We had batteries for the radio. No problem. Can't do that today in a newer suburban subdivision.

We had gas and radiant gas heaters up in the foothills. At least you could keep warm.
We lost water. The town would run out. So I can sympathize with those who are on boil orders. We'd have to boil the water, plus strain the mud out.

We haven't had more than half day outages here today, but every damn thing relies on electricity - even the fireplace blower/fan. We can get a drink and flush the toilets, but can't heat water. Can also unlatch garage door opener and get in and out.

That's why I don't want any company (MS, Google, Apple) wanting to totally control the home. I want an out in case of a disaster, which designers and builders of homes will probably not allow for unless mandated. A 100 year event (flood, fire) of years ago is a 10 year event today.

I got lucky that we have a gas stove and hot water heater. On the stove, only the burners work, not the oven. I'm having to get creative, I'm using a cast iron pot on the stove top as an oven to heat up our freezer goods before they spoil. :D

During a snowstorm we once did 11 days with no power. Phones were charged at work. Gas stove, Gas hot water heater, back up gas heater too. I fashioned a snow refrigerator and, We had gas lanterns and candles. It's not really roughing it if you are prepared. :D

Yeah, we have natural gas for stove and hot water, too. Definitely makes things a lot easier.
