Just rooted 2 days ago. Actually I paid a dude 50$ to do it for me cuz I bricked my old phone trying to do it myself. But, now I can't access android market/google play. I tried going to system/apps folder and tried installing the vendor apk, only to receive a notice saying "problem parsing package". Then, I had the google play apk backed up to my sd frrom before I rooted. I installed the app from there, and every time that I tried to start it up it force closed. Then I tried to go to google play from the web browser on the phone. I signed into my google account, but when I tried to install any apps, the website said that it didn't recognize my phone.I'm at a loss here! Can't say I didn't try. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm new to rooting so maybe I'm just being dumb.

Welcome mai8ko! Thanks for joining :)
What device do you have and what rom are you running?
We can try to help with some more info :D
No worries :D

Sorry, didn't notice the post on "no support questions" before posting this. My internet is down due to the storm last night, and am doing this from my phone+ network. I've got a Samsung Admire, running 2.3.4. I'm not sure what "rom your running" means/ is in reference to. If you can guide me where to find that info on my phone, I'd be glad to provide it.

No problem,
moved your thread here to help out more as the folks here would know about your device than I would!
Perhaps in the "about phone" screen, it may tell you what the rom name is and that might help.
:D

If you go to settings > about phone and there should be a build number. It will either be a long set of letters/numbers, or if you have a custom ROM it will usually state what it's called :)

[Ninja'd by Mikestony! :D]

Any word? Sorry, don't mean to be impatient, but I feel like I'm getting shafted from the guy who I paid, who's now not picking up his phone to help me out. It's been 3 days already, and now all of a sudden he's gone MIA after receiving my $$$. You guys are my only hope!

mai8ko you should check out some of the roms out here, im sure youll fine something to your liking ;) and once you get comfortable with trying it to install it, cause its actaully pretty easy, go for it bro. then maybe find a nice theme if there is one available for the phone. also check out the back to stock thread i gathered, it would definitely help you to fix this problem if you already havent. not only that but having a way back to stock or to another rom can be a life saver.

I can't lie I'm a bit scared after bricking my old phone. I'm trying to gather the gumption to do it myself though. I been reading the"all things routed" section all day! Though I'm not exactly sure which route to go. I was thinking: 2.3.6-back to stock, then the updated 2.3.6 root. But I'm a little confused with how to install cwm??? Like I said, I'm a noobie and this is all a foreign language to me. Thanks for the support though, and I appreciate the words of encouragement!

BTW qandres12, are those the threads you are referring to? Or is there something else that I'm missing?

Ok, download Odin here: goo.gl/3z64A and the ops and recovery here: http://hardestyhosting.com/mirror/admire-cwm.tar

Install odin on your computer. Once installed open odin up. Now take your phone and usb cable and plug in the usb to your computer but dont plug in the phone. Take out the battery and put it back in then hold the camrea button and plug in the usb to your phone. You will see a yellow triangle and a warning about flashing stuff. Just press volume up and you'll be in "download mode." Return to your computer and you'll see on odin that a new COM port showed up (may not see it right away because the first time you do it, because odin installs drivers so download mode will work) extract the zip with the ops and cwm.tar (hint: dont unzip the tar ;) ) on odin, click ops and find the .ops file you unzipped. Now click pda and find the .tar. It will warn you about the wrong kind of file. Ignore it. From there click start and let odin do its work! Once your phone restarts you installed it right :) let your phone boot up then hold down volume down, back and power til you see the samsung logo. Your screen will suddenly shut off. Dont worry, just keep hold the buttons til you see the samsung logo. You should now be in clockworkmod :) enjoy!

2GigayteSD, you're awesome! Actually, all of you guys are awesome! I've rooted myself with your online assistance. I did the CWM download, then the 2.3.6 back-to-stock, then the 2.3.6 root. Worked like a charm! Only 1 thing that keeps coming up and is a beeotch!!! (well, actually 2 things) Following the root I installed root explorer, because titanium root kept undoing the root-actually I had to do re-do the root like three times before figuring this out... Anyway, after installing root explorer, I deleted system apps that were listed in the forum as safe to remove. For like a day everything worked fine, then all of a sudden I keep getting this notification that states: "can't verify voice" Repeat: I ONLY DELETED METRO BS SYSTEM APPS LISTED IN THE FORUM AS OKAY TO REMOVE. Also, at first I was able to use the play store without any troubles after removing the system apps. But now if I try to install or update anything from google play I get: Error:Update/download could not be downloaded due to an error.(Error retreiving information from server. [RPC:AEC:0]) I don't get it??? Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? You guys are legends in my book!

Sorry, not "can't verify voice", but: "Google Talk authentication failed". (Just got the notice AGAIN--very annoying)

simple fix: just unsync your account, clear the data for the playstore and the google services framework, reboot phone, sync account, and open up the playstore to accept the terms and conditions

Whoo, what a busy day! Been trying to find a moment all day to get back to you very helpful people. Okay, so I tried that method, but was still getting both notifications. I finally gave in and redid the whole 2.3.6 back-to-stock. Then redid the root. Then deleted the prescribed deletables. Now everything's fine. No notifications, no problems with google play. My only concern is that those problems will return. This is exactly what happened b4. Worked great for like a day, then came the BS. So my next questions are: are there bugs with the 2.3.6 b.t.s. /root? Should I try another rom? I've read good things about admiral beast. I like the slight changes in 2.3.6, but they're not critiical to me. Also if I'm changing from 2.3.6 to beast, what's the correct procedure? I'd like to keep 2.3.6, so if there are any solutions that'd be awesome, but if there's no hope for 2.3.6, then any advice on switching to beast would be great. Lastly, ud respect to the demi-gods of phandroid.

Just wipe /system and /data in cwm and flash :D Admiral Beast is nice for new rom flashers ;)

Okay, I think I figured out what was wrong! After reloading the 2.3.6 b.t.s., and rooting again, I deleted all of the system apps prescribed EXCEPT visual voicemail. I don't know why, but everything is solid gold now! I don't know if it's a feature of the 2.3.6 os, but I highly suggest that anyone using that rooted os: DO NOT DELETE VISUAL VOICEMAIL!!! It won't brick your phone if you do, but you'll be ripping out your hair trying to figure out what's wrong. Thanks again for all of the assistance through this process- you guys are lifesavers! And especially thankyou Mikestony, 2GigayteSD, and qandres12.

Oh, and that @$$hole TOTALLY ripped me off!! Well I lost 50$, but I gained a lot more knowledge thanks to the help at phandroid! (also ended up with a MUCH BETTER job done) I guess the old addage still stands: if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!!... with some guidance from the masters of course!
