It is probably the IMEI number.

no its a pull down menu with codes like:

sgh - i317tsmbmc
sgh - i317zwmbmc

i dont know what those are... my model number is sgh-i317m

took out battery... looked in About section... NADA with anything close to those letters....

just got one from the samsung live chat help... but now my serial number is apparently invalid... seriously?

something so simple became so frustrating

Not sure if you did it like this, but when I tried putting in the serial number, the reason it didn't work is I followed exactly how it was listed (with spaces). After I took out the spaces, it worked perfectly. Hopefully, that was the issue there. Let us know if that works.

Model # - It's also on the box your phone came in.

Bottom of box. First row of numbers on the left starting with SGH and whatever the rest of it is. Don't use spaces. (the model # is the carrier code for that phone). Each carrier uses a different #.

Also on the box. Its the MEID - HEX #
Mine was also invalid because I was entering the wrong set of numbers.

Wikipedia lists a bunch of model #s based on your country. Not sure if that helps.

It's based on carrier. If I'm in Sprint I can't use an AT&T model number.
Personally I think Samsung's registration page should've been more forward thinking instead of all the confusion it provides.

hey guys thanks for your help... while finding my model code was a challenge, i did it lol...

however, serial number (no spaces) still says is invalid.... confirmed with samsung tech that serial number is valid and should work...

such a simple task became SO difficult for no reason!

and i agree... they should be more user friendly in terms of Model Codes and such...

And you definitely input the serial number without spaces?

yes

i actually dont have any spaces on my device or back of the phone so i didnt input them to begin with...

so what ended up happening, i was talking to samsung tech via live chat and she registered my phone herself, cause everything she asked me to try didnt work... and so now it doesnt show in my My Samsung account... she gave me a reference # instead to give out if i have issues with it...

annoying. no 50% off... no device on my samsung account... gahh. :hmpf:

So sorry to hear that. Should've been WAY easier than that. Have you purchased anything from Samsung yet?

Did you try registering your phone from the phone like I suggested it? I did the screen shot so you could see what the registration page would look like on your phone.

Hello!

I received this explanation of the model code and product registration problem from a very helpful guy at Samsung Customer Care:

"For registering Samsung cell-phones, a model code is required. The model code can be determined from the carrier network that is being used by the cell-phone. Different carriers have different model codes for each cell-phone model. However, once you have a carrier assisgned to your cell-phone as per the SIM card, the cell-phone should be able to get registered."

So, in order to use Samsung's online product registration service, your phone must be activated on a carrier. Based on this, NeoGrandizer's post below (post #24) about the model code relating to the CSC region code appears to be correct!

IMEI code under the battery. Also on the box but check under the battery to make sure you are registering the right number

There is an issue with Samsung Canada's product registration page. I had a problem with the Note 10.1 where the code and serial number were not working. The only product I was successfully able to register was my original Note. The email I received from Samsung stated they were aware of this issue with invalid model code and serial number. The only way to register was to email them back with the details for them to manually enter it into my account. They also stated registration was not required for warranty purposes. The warranty is still valid with or without product registration.

It looks like the last 3 digit codes pertain to the CSC region code the phone belongs to.

BMC = Bell
RWC = Rogers
TLS = Telus

Not sure what BWA is. Maybe Wind/Mobilicity.
