SGS2-ICS 4.0.4 XWLPW- Rooting Doubts..please help!

Hello Seniors,

I am new here so greetings! I am new to the Android world so need help on some basic things.

I have this Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 bought from Saudi Arabia and the OS was ICS 4.0.3 XXLPW. I flashed it to ICS 4.0.4 XWLPW lately with Odin and it works fine.

Model: GT i9100
ICS 4.0.4
Baseband: i9100DDLPB
Kernel V: 3.0.15-1056084 dpi@DELL168 #3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 22 22:55:24 KST 2012
Build N: IMM76D.XWLPW

Now I am all into rooting my phone (first attempt and newbie) and I got two good threads that describes the procedure for my exact Android Version.

How to Root XWLPW Android 4.0.4 ICS on Galaxy S2 I9100 - Tutorial / Guide | Team Android

How To Root Galaxy S2 ICS 4.0.4 XWLPW ? | Technoxide - Android , Windows , Linux , iOS , Symbian Techs

The second link seems far too easy. Question, first link says I have to Factory Unlock my phone the other one is not even mentioning it, what is Factory Unlocking my S2? How to do it? Or how to check if I am already factory unlocked?

After buying and using my S2 from Saudi Arabia I had been on vacation in India where I normally used Vodafone India SIM too, without any hassles or notifications........IF THAT'S ALL WHAT BEING FACTORY UNLOCKED IS UP TO!?

Appreciate some good tips.

Thanks.

Thanks ironass, that guide seems pretty good..I'd care to follow!

I am waiting for the JB 4.1 'Official Stock Release' to flash my S2 via Kies OTA or Odin itself...will that process unroot my phone if I root prior to that?

Sorry if that sounds stupid, junior Andro all the way :(

If you are rooted you will not receive an OTA update or be able to update via Kies. You will have to flash the update via Odin. The stock update will have an un-rooted kernel which means you will need to re-root.

Not any other you mean, other firmware versions?

For me I got only this S2 phone and it's XWLPW..apparently that suits me yeah?

Welcome to the forum

I can't really vouch for that method but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would consider using the cfroot method in ironass' guide though. From experience using other methods than cfroot do work but they tend to cause more problems down the line.

I've moved this to all things root:)

I tried

*#simlock# to it's curresponding numbers *#746562k# it says USSD code running....then Connection problem or invalid MMI code.

What's next? :(

If the code doesn't work the only other way I can think of is to insert a sim for another network. If you don't get prompted to enter an unlock code it's already unlocked.

Yeah that's what factory unlocked is. The only thing that could effect rooting by being locked is the bootloader but that's irrelevant for the international gs2 as they all come pre unlocked

Edit: I think they might be referring to the bootloader in that guide and not sim unlock, so no need to worry as its already unlocked.

Hi, I keep hearing that, but I have always managed to update via Kies after rooting (it recognises my phone and what firmware I am on) - of course I also lose root in the process.

Is this because I am using the cf-root method and because it's close to stock?

I have no doubt when JB is released Kies will let me know (provided it bothers to detect my phone, which is a different story entirely). :)

You are one of those lucky few man, My kies is saying my phone is not eligible for updates...even being not rooted and stayed with Stock ICS 4.0.3..

I bought this from KSA and the made was for Poland...I thinks the Sales code should match the country I am in to get Kies help me :P
