I believe the 4/8 conference is for the OS, and the Summer conference is usually where they get the new iPhone.....only the original iPhone was announced outside of the summer conference.

<--- is gonna laugh when Apple does make a CDMA iPhone, but NOT for the USA (VZW), but for China or South Korea. I read one of them if not both have some carriers on CDMA. I think it was China.

I think Steven58 I mean Steve Jobs :p :D looks at VZW like this...

An un-tapped oil field our in the middle of the ocean that is waiting to be drilled into. They are sitting on it and when the time is right (most likely LTE and when they feel the pressure from Android and get nervous) they will drill into it and make a nice profit.

Apple is pretty cocky too. I think they can be paranoid as well, but they think they are the *hit. Hands down, they feel they can brainwash people into becoming Apple followers (maybe they can/do :D) and don't feel too threatened by Android or WM or whatever. When they do get a little paranoid they act on a whim and do something out of character for them or unexpected.
I.E. buy a chip company, hold a press conference out of no where, create the iPad?

First, I want to say that my search for info on the Nexus One brought be here a while back. This thread sold me on the Incredible, so the waiting game began.

This will be my first smart phone. And one of the things that sprung to mind when thinking of an internet and wifi enabled phone was using it as a mobile hotspot. I was disappointed to learn that this is only allowed at extra cost above the not so unlimited data plan.

Someone mentioned that it is $15 a month for this app/feature. (I'm not really looking to root the phone) My question would be, is it a constant $15 a month, or only charged in the months you use it? I'd only really need it when I'm travelling to visit family, some of which don't have wifi. So it wouldn't be a constant thing.

Would I be able to call up Verizon and request the feature to be activated when I need it? Would I also then be able to turn around and have them take it back off to avoid constant charges for it?

Tethering without a subscription is not authorized by vzw and if they become aware of the practice they have been known to at least send the customer exorbitant bills. You may be able to argue the bills, but if you want to stay within their guidelines, you aren't gonna be able to tether without a monthly fee. (Unless you go Palm Pre)

I think this press conference may have been Stevie J. hitting the panic button. He's seeing the exodus to the Android platform, and he realized that they can't wait till summer to announce the new OS features because so many people will have seen the newer Android handsets and left.

He first tried to stop the android phones from coming to the US but that didn't work, so I think they got flustered and went with a press conference to sell their OS.

So I have been lurking here for a few months now and have been waiting and waiting and waiting with extreme anticipation for something "Incredible" (like everyone else here). However, now that we know for sure that the iphone is coming to VZW this summer, what are your thoughts on waiting for the iphone?? This will be my first smartphone so I really am in the dark about all of this.

Anyways I thank everyone in here for their continual entertainment! ;)

...and dont bite my head off about the iphone. i just want a REALLY good phone that wont be outdated the second i buy it.

Apple limits what you can and can't have on the phone (ex. DS emulator that was removed) while google doesn't. That's a big reason right there. I don't like having someone else control what I can and can't have on my phone (or computer).

So hypothetically, if the Incredible were released today, I am curious how many of us would get it right away...and how many would wait 2 days to maybe see what Apple & VZW are up to.

so am i correct that verizon will give you the ne2 pricing if you are upgrading to the data plan even though it is before your actual upgrade date?

Could very well be. I have noticed over the past few months and reading articles online that big companies tend to act on a whim (especially if they have a lot of $).

For instance, google farts in Apple's direction and Apple goes out and does one thing. Google sees this so they try to match or surpass it. So I agree with you. Hell, Steve Jobs could have had a bad dream or eaten a bad tofo salad or something and felt he needed to launch a press conference. IT WAS A SIGN, lol. We'll see what happens. Based on the info found in the iPad tech. info. it does look like 2 iPhones are coming. That's fine BUT

Where is my incredible VZW? This 2 weeks has turned into 5... and although the pieces are in place and something could happen within the next hour (probably not :() it could also be 5 more weeks. It's just mind boggling.

I would jump on the Incredible so fast it would make your head spin. Apple leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd order is just so I could possible have it before they ""changed their mind"" and pushed it out two weeks ;)

I don't think VZW will be mentioned at Apple's conference Thursday. The most you might get is something about 2 iPhones this year and how the OS will work with that.

All that will lead to is more rumors and speculation.

If the incredible were released today, on my way home I would stop at the VZW store I pass daily, check the phone out, play with it. If I am blown away and really impressed I'd walk out with it. If not, I'd just chill and hate life for awhile.

I don't think this is SJ hitting the panic button. They never wait till summer to announce a new OS.

announcement history
OS 2.0 - March 6, 2008
OS 3.0 - March 17, 2009
OS 4.0 - April 8, 2010

Actually this is later than normal for them to announce/preview a new OS. Apple love em or hate them keep a pretty reliable timeline with the iPhone.

I wish VZW kept a somewhat respectable timeline

Maybe that is their timeline.. No timeline at all. Just the "Stay tuned, okay? :-)" :D

I hope we get some info on the incredible from VZW soon. I really want this phone and was willing to pay my ETF last month to get it - but as more news about other phones come out I am starting to get distracted from the incredible:o

What did I miss kids?

Did you read last night's pages? There was reliable info saying that it's coming out this month, perhaps quite soon.

My guess would be that they didn't check for logged in credentials before and we were able to access it without being logged in to their website. Verizon probably saw their internal info being passed along the internet, and decided to fill in the hole.
True...The warehouse could have the phones in holding. Once Verizon's "Knights of the Round Table" approve of the Incredible, Verizon will issue payment/final payment to HTC to release the phones from the warehouse for distribution to the retail stores.

Yup read the posts here and @ nexus one forums. I don't post here a lot but I keep up to date. I'm starting to get cynical and until I hear something from VZW I'm looking at most info (reliable or not) as speculation.

Yeah man! Let that be this week!

I've always heard that but every VZW rep denies it. They say the device is not compatible. How can I force the issue?
If the phone works on Verizon's network, and has a clean ESN, then by LAW they have to activate the device on the network. Tell them that they are breaking the law. If they still cry foul, call into Verizon and speak to someone at a higher competence level.
