Well, I finally solved some of the battery issues that have been plaguing me on the
PhilZ kernel for the last week.
During that week I was averaging around 13-15 hours of
my normal usage. That included phone/video calls, web browsing, texts, GPS/Google Maps, etc:
On Sunday, with the imminent prospect of being affected by the floods, locally, I set about going through my phone with a
fine tooth comb to try and see if I could get more from it as I knew from previous experience, that this would be my life-line.
In the last 24 hours or so, my area has been on Flood Alert and this has meant calls to the Environment Agency, neighbours and sundry other organisations as well as keeping tabs on the various web sites and news sites and not to mention countless texts.
Whilst some of you may use your phones for recreational purposes, mine is a working phone, a life-line and a necessity. Only the other day, during the storms, I got an accurate GPS fix for the Highways Department to come and remove a fallen tree that was blocking access. Incidentally, the GPS fix was not only fast but so accurate that when I zoomed in on satellite mode in Google Maps, it showed the same tree, still standing.
I am certainly not claiming that this is the best that you can get on
JB and the
PhilZ kernel, which is stock anyway, or that I cannot improve on this myself.
I will say that this is the most I have ever got from a battery on a stock kernel without the benefit of dedicated kernel tweaks.
It does however mean that I now know that with
my usage I can get about a day,
24 hours, from it... which is all I wanted.
This will come in useful as we are still on Flood Alert here as we wait for the next high tide and all the water coming down river from the Welsh Mountains... I blame
Hawker for that and if I catch him relieving himself in the river... he's for it! :boxing:
