i just hope sprint is smart and releases is early june/late may. sprint cant afford to release the evo no more than a week before the 22nd.

Original instinct here too :D

Ha! Welcome to the club. I left it in Summer 2008 when the iPhone 3G was released. I couldn't stand the constant loss of data connectivity, and the slow as molasses scrolling speed, and the apps that did absolutely nothing, and...

...whatever, onward and upward!

I have to agree...I mean the phone looked pretty damn fully functional at CTIA when it was announced and it didn't look like a lot more had to be done to it but maybe some final tweaking etc.. with that said I cant see why Sprint would not release it ASAP ahead of the iphone release so that way they can undercut them and maybe pull in some people who are at the end of there contracts or maybe want to try out a new phone in general!! Start heavily promoting it from April 16th until the whatever hopefully June release like Verizon did with the Motorola Droid and BOOM that'll start such a craze for this phone that when it's released it'll make the iphone Launce look flat! ok maybe not knock them out completely b/c we know there plenty brain washed apple fanboys out there but you get the point ;) But I def. think the sooner the better and Sprint needs this BIG TIME!!! This isn't some gimpy release this is HUGE!! They dont have any room for error...they need to strike while the iron is hot!! All the hype right now is Sprint HTC and the HTC ANDROID EVO, there new pricing plans and there newest free guarantee program...while this is hot and fresh in people minds they need to get this out and into people hands if they want to make a come back and prove why the NOW NETWORK is where you need to be at!! The palm pre example is perfect on how waiting to long spoiles things... not only that..the longer you wait to release it other devices come out and people get tired of waiting and then guess what??? they either go somewhere else or get a different phone!!

the phones at ctia were NOT very functional. all the demos showed you the same thing: youtube, browser, camera. trust me, there's still a decent amount of work they need to do to these phones.

But that can also be due to the fact that a lot of the other stuff didn't work properly with 4G..NO?? Well whatever the case I just hope everything works out in the end and Sprint and HTC can release this phone ASAP for all the reasons I mentioned above! Hopefully they finish up whatever needs to be done w/the EVO polish it package it up and get it out!! I hope April 16th is a real date that's supposed to materialize into something big w/info...at least that way we can stop playing the guessing game and can have some more piece of mind and go from there!! This whole summer 2010 thing is driving us mad lol

BTW do you or anyone else on here know how to stop getting emails every time a new post get posted in here...kinda gets annoying sometimes when my phone keeps going off lol thanks!!

Actually, I believe there was quite a bit that wasn't finished. The only reason we found out about the phone when we did was because of CTIA. That forced Sprint to play their hand before they were actually ready to make an announcement.

I understand that waiting is a killer, but at least we have pictures, videos, specs and a lot of written reports that I'm so thankful to have. Without a doubt, Sprint wants to release this phone as much as we want it, but I can't see them releasing the phone before it's ready. It would be wonderful if we get the phone in the late spring instead of early summer, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. Yes, we all want the phone now, but I don't want it before it's finished. As far as the timing compared to the Apple device could have some bearing, but not for me. Even if the EVO comes out after the iPhone, people are still going to be clamoring for our phone. I'm just saying it could be 2 or 3 months yet, so it's a little early to get all worked up about it. At least Sprint has the EVO on their front page now and according to Jackson, we should know more next week.

I agree the only way I could possibly loose interest in this device was if Apple announced a iPhone 4G for Sprint or possibly a new 4G Web OS device came out with a larger screen. Basically I am set on switching to Sprint because of their prices but I a lot of people might be swooned away for an iPhone HD or whatever.
It's just pretty dang hard to top the EVO with the specs we know and the promise a few more surprises, competitors really have to be on their A game to one up this phone.

That's why you flash a new ROM! ;)

I remember the day I got my htc ppc-6800 2.5 years ago, the first thing I did when I took it out of the box was flash a cracked bootloader and install a custom rom. It was at least a few months later that an official rom with gps enabled was released, and another rom for RevA support, and once custom roms were made with those new capabilities I've stuck with the same one ever since. I suspect with the EVO I will be happy with the stock rom, but I will definitely root it to be able to install unverified apps.

They should release the phone this month, or somehow 30 days before Verizon get's the Incredible, because people MIGHT get the Evo and if the Incredible comes out before the 30 days, they might leave. As for me, whatever comes first I will get, but most likely leaning tords the Evo.

Just curious if any of the folks on this thread:

- have experience as Android Developers?
- have experience creating custom ROMs for smartphones?

I have a custom ROM on my HTC Touch, that I got from some website.
I re-flashed my phone with this custom ROM and ended up with a complement of SW apps, and layout I really liked.
I was interested in "cooking" up my own custom ROMs but never followed up.

I would like to pursue this when I get my EVO - I'm sure it will already be excellent, but there will be some number of people who will want to play with the interface, layout, skins, etc...

Maybe the large number of apps available for the EVO will reduce the desire for custom ROMS??

Anybody else interested in this?

Danny
