Samsung TecTiles

FrancisJ

Newbie
So i just got my new TecTiles and its been driving me nuts the last 1h or so. When i try writing a profile to Tectile it says "You TecTile has been written" but when i touch my phone to it, it tells me "New tag collected" , "Empty tag"

What am i doing wrong??

Not sure as I've just picked some up myself to play with but I have noticed a couple of things.

First, it seems a bit buggy. I tried to set one up for work that toggled wi-fi and toggled vibrate. I wrote the tag successfully as it reads but the vibrate toggle doesn't actually execute, even though it says it is. I got the wi-fi to toggle and silence to toggle but not vibrate.

Second, I tried to use the tag that I set-up for my office with my Nexus 7. All it wants to do is send me to the play store to get the Tectiles app. (Which it isn't compatible with.) I was going to get one of these up for the public area of our office for general public to use but it looks like these are of very limited use from what I can tell.

Overall, they don't seem to be worth what they want.

Okay i figured it out! not sure if its just me but the samsung tectile app doesnt work very well. it wouldnt write to tiles. i downloaded nfs launcher if everything works great!

That is very odd but it sounds like maybe the route to go is to get that app and obtain just regular tags from a 3rd party vendor.

Oddly, I was leaving work today and went to use the tile I made to toggle my wi-fi and silent mode. It came up the first time as an empty tile. Scanned it a second time and it worked. Hoping this isn't another wonky item from Samsung. Still not happy about the car dock for the GNex. That thing worked great at first and then went downhill.

So far everything seems to be working okay now. My wifi kept turning back on but after a google search i found out i needed to turn data optimizer thingy off. Oh and i have a tag in my car to disable lock screen and other stuff but my gallery and a few other apps have app locks on them. When i open gallery after i hit tile it starts up screen lock again even tho the gallery lock is a separate app. Oh well, its not a perfect system yet but it works okay.

I was hoping the TagStand app would be the answer but I think I've spotted a big issue with NFC tags. Ones that I write with the Tectiles app are only readable by devices with the Tectiles app. Ones that I write with the TagStand app are only readable by that app. So far, I'm not finding the whole NFC tag idea as useful in practice as they sound in concept.

Since my car dock doesn't automatically go to CarHome Ultra, I bought some TecTiles and plan on sticking it on the phone holder of the car dock itself and program it to launch my car dock, as well as turn on gps automatically. My question is: Can you keep the phone attached to the TecTile on the car dock for an extended amount of time, or should I just place the TecTile somewhere I can tap my phone in, and then attached it to the car dock?

I'm hoping there would be no problem if I attached the TecTile on the dock itself.

Caloy, part of me thinks you can leave it. I recall a Youtube video in which someone had their tile stuck to the stand his phone was on.
Although the other part of me wonders how that would be affected in a moving vehicle. At least on the stand it wasn't hitting potholes.

My suggestion- try it but make sure you let us know your results cause you know around here someone else will be looking for the same thing.
Maybe we can get DrEx to do it. He likes experimenting. :D

From the settings I've tried out, you get three options; on, off and toggle. I only ever use toggle as I'm trying to turn on and off settings with the same tile. I'll have to try to see what happens otherwise.

Yup saw the video just now and programmed the textiles and stick one on the cradle. I'll test it out tomorrow when I get to work. In house testing seems to work as it launched the app and did set the volume to maximum. Let's see if the cars movement disturbs it.

I did see a little issue in house, when I tried to play a video, it re-launched the programmed settings and the app.

Update: it's a no go on the NFC on the dock itself. It kept on engaging the commands and very annoying.

I guess I just have to wait for the iBolt dock when it comes out.
