Unimpressed with Android 4.2!

Oh and speech to text is lot better. I haven't had to correct anything yet which is a big improvement over the older versions.

Touchwiz rom with replacement launcher is very smooth. I don't think AOSP can do better than equal it.

Touchwiz rom with touchwiz launcher may be a different story. Its important to realise touchwiz home (launcher) is not always what is being referred to when we say "touchwiz" and that is where a lot of the confusion comes in.

I dislike touchwiz for 3 principle reasons.
1)as mentioned, it is not aesthetically pleasing at all. Anyone who ever owned a Verizon Droid Charge will agree with me. The whole them was black, brown, and orange. So ugly.
2)It slows down or completely eliminates android updates. The Galaxy S 1 phones were spec wise identical to the Nexus S, but they're frozen on 2.3.x while the Nexus S runs 4.1.2 officially.
3)Maybe I'm guilty because I used old versions, but it just slows down the device. It isn't as clean as AOSP, and is extremely clunky.

While some don't like touchwiz, I thought Samsung did a bang up job on it for the GS3. There are many features I compare to friends with the Nexus and they simply don't have them but are very impressed with what they see on the GS3. I used to be a pure Google fan starting with the OG Droid. Then even more of a fan of it with the Droid 3 (Moto blur is the WORST) but with the GS3, I have not had any inclination to go stock Android at all. In fact, I think (shutter the thought, I know) going to stock would be a *downgrade* for the GS3. That is just my opinion but I'm sticking with it.

Does Samsung publish a list of features added to SG3 by Touchwhiz as I always wondered if a particular functionality if from stock Android OS from Google or added by Samsung.

Indeed, plus there are different versions of hardware. Mine was from ATT so its the dual core 2 gig version. That alone my make a difference in some aspects of the user experience.

Yes agreed. As functional as the touchwiz framework is, the colours are a boy gross. I only really see it in s planner nowadays. I theme to look like AOSP as its much prettier.

I think we can discount this as a point against touchwiz and credit it as a point towards AOSP. The same is true of all OEM skinned android devices. Often what they lack in speed of delivery, they make up for in range of features and what they lack in support longevity, they make up for in future development of said features.

Without OEM skins, modified frameworks etc, every device would be the same... with exception to design and hardware. Having been a developer of AOSP, I certainly see the merits of it, however I can also see how OEMs like samsung contribute to development. There are many features that prevent me going AOSP for want of not losing them. Not supporting a device for as long as Google does helps to plough more into their own unique features. What I'm saying is, I see both sides here but its not really touchwiz specific and it is subjective as to what is more important to any given individual

We're getting into distinctions again. Launcher vs framework. Yes the launcher is clunky. Whether it slows it down or not I can't tell because its too ugly to use anyway. As for touchwiz framework, as I posted earlier, I don't think AOSP could particularly better my TW ROM.

Out of interest, are there people running Android stock ROM who are yearning for TW features on other devices? A reasonable number want to go from TW to AOSP, it would be interesting to see it from the other side of the fence.

The one I yearn for most is the implementation of multiple windows that occur on the Galaxy Notes and S3's or LG Optimus G. Would be OK on my GNex, but I would really like it on my Nexus 7 or Transformer Infinity(which is mostly AOSP). It would have been toggles, but we got them in 4.2 even if they are ugly.

I really want Multiple windows too for my Nexus 7. I think this is probably the most useful feature that Samsung has ever used with their phones.

Totally agree. TW in JB is a bit laggy and not that pretty. However with Nova Launcher it is butter smooth.

The innovations (yes read 'innovations' Apple!) that Samsung put in I prefer it to stock Android. I'm running the leaked Sammy 4.1.2 ROM and the muliti screen, image browser, configurable notification bar are great!
