[Verizon] "Phone" using most battery when not using my phone?

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me out here. I own the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and love it. I do have it rooted using BuglessBeast build 4.1.1. Lately (about the last week or so), my phone has been draining battery faster than normal. When I go to look at what is draining my battery, the "Phone" app has been on top of the list. The curious part is that I haven't used my phone at all...This morning for example, my battery drained to 83% within 15 minutes and it said that 42% of the battery drain was from the "Phone App" when I haven't made a call, checked voice mails, nothing

I've tried a battery pull and that didn't solve the problem. I can probably try a new build but I am waiting for BB 4.2 build to release. Has this happened or anyone else or does anyone know how to resolve the problem??

Thanks for all the help in advance!!! Happy to share any additional information if it will help with the investigation :)

Chris

Hey there cknight!!
I moved your thread here so the good folks who know your specific device could help you out better than in the Lounge area.
I hope your issue gets resolved. :)

Look in settings/apps/running and see whats up. If you're running several instances of maps or facebook and the like you are hard at it.

Thanks for the reply! So I did look in settings > Apps > Running and yes I do in fact have two instances of maps services running and 1 instance of facebook services running. When I stop these, they just start back up.

However, I don't believe this is the issue. If these were the primary battery drainer, it would say maps and facebook is taking the majority of my battery. My question why does it show "Phone" as being my top battery drainer when I haven't been making any phone calls?

So I've attached two screens. Phone is only taking 18% of my battery now, but that is quite a bit considering I haven't made 1 phone call today, or used any voice data at all.

Sorry, now they are attached :)

Hard to say. You could have a bad install of BB. You could have done a 'dirty flash' of your ROM. I haven't tried any Bugless roms. The sticking factor to me is that you have two instances of maps running.

It could be rom related, or kernel related.

You could start by doing a fresh clean install of your current Bugless ROM. If that doesn't work, try a different kernel. It's all relative, but I've been using Trinity with the (free) Trickster MOD app; but more importantly, I long ago found a .zip file called "BATTERY BOOSTER!!!.zip that I have flashed in conjunction with all my roms which seems to be the source of my stellar battery life. You can find it in my "Samsung I515 files" link in my sig.

good luck

so, I'm running JBSourcery's 4.2 preview 2, and I had the same issue. I went from 79% to 5% overnight, with Phone running for 2 hours and AndroidOS showing it ran for 6 hours.

Well there you go, a preview. You are on you're own on previews. They are unfinished ROMs and you are the tester.
Face book is a known battery killer if its constantly sync'ing. Google Now will run your maps all the time and that's a drain too.

One way to tell for sure is to go back to your nandroid of the previous ROM.

Um, I never claimed otherwise?

FWIW, no facebook installed and haven't activated Google Now.

As for the nandroid, that's a whole 'nother story...

Yeah I am on Bugless Beast, so it should be a rather stable build. Also, this issue has only popped up recently. This morning my phone is still showing 12% battery drain from the "phone" app when I haven't made a call or used any voice data. I totally understand facebook and maps can drain the battery if they are syncing, I am not worried about that. It's the fact that the phone app is draining battery when I'm not making any calls. To me that makes no sense.
