Orange /T mobile use this SN to dowload the update

yup the good old carrier id if that equals t-mobile or orange then you may as well sit back grab a drink and wait...

for at least 6 months :)
 
so let me get this straight, this update will only work on an unlocked and unbranded Hero??

or will it work on an unlocked but branded hero?

i can get my hero unlocked right now for
 
just spoke to them myself.

They didn't seem to know what I was talking about. They are going to find out and give me a call back this evening some time.

They said there had been an email circulated but that it didn't give much info.
 
Grr. So annoyed that I have to wait for Orange to mark their territory by urinating all over the firmware with their soon to be obsolete branding.

Why why why do Orange always f@@k with phones ?

Who wants an Orange logo when you boot up ?

Who wants Orange world bookmarks ?

Who wants a daft Orange square on the phone ?

All we want is to be able to update our phone the same time as everyone else in the world !!!
 
I rooted my orange handset using the unlokr website and added the modaco ROM. Will I be able to do this upgrade as my phone start-up is no longer orange?

No as the firmware released today contains some kind of code to check Handset Id and the orange handset id assign to orange are no in this firmware db.

i just called orange and they know update is released today orange will be providing all orange htc hero customers update in next 2 days. we also soon getting an a text from orange to confirm that tooo

anything difference the todays update rom vs the custom update rom was leakd few days back from MoDaCo?

Thanks for the info, fingers crossedtemp a text from orange. If the update goes on their website whereabouts will it be?
 
Thanks mcmonkiez. I've emailed orange support before I'd read this to ask wen it would be out. I also had a general whinge about how frustrating it is that the only reason we have to wait to get a phone working as well as it should is a branding issue.

Slightly happier now that I know it should just be a couple of days.

(As an aside I have to agree with themonkster. I know the carriers subsidise our handsets but do they really have to mark their territory by spraying their totally incongruent logos all over the lovingly crafted interfaces and expertly styled casings of all the coolest phones? It's such a shame - sometimes the colour orange just doesn't go with the carefully chosen colour scheme! Whinge over!)

I went and update the custom rom from 1.5 to 2.2 modaco and honestly it was lag there.

so I went back again on 1.5 and notice its faster then the 2.2.

2.2 modaco firmware based on the update released today however any body notice anything todays update?

coz 2.2modaco custom firmware i notice lag there and not fast and optimize as 1.5 ..
 
I've just spoken to orange and they told me it'll be updated on htc's site at midnight on thursday so Orange customer's will be able to download it on Friday.
Don't know how true that is but she said it straight away, didn't have to check with anyone to answer me so I'm guessing they've had a fair few calls already haha

It's great to see guys on here have been on Orange's case re the new ROM update. I can finally stop swearing since failing to download it las night! Thx

On a slight tangent, can anyone recommend any free backup software so I can save all my stuff prior to the upgrade. I assume just copying all the SD card as is, is not sufficient?

MyBackup is good..
30 day trial tho. So use it wisely.
 
I see a lot of unhappy Orange customers on here and the level of beurocracy is amazing...at how ******** it is!

Anywhoo, one thing i have noticed is that there is not much activity from the T-Mobile fans. Are they affected by the same dilema (as i am on T-mob myself) or have we got a graceful pardon from this insanity?

from what i know, same situation as orange people, i am on tmobs and i am waiting for this new update to be released
