[Verizon] Complete wipe of "sd card"

Well-Known Member
I'm have tried several 4.2 ROMs and have accumulated a ton of excess crap on my "sd card". Is it possible to wipe the entire card, flash a new recovery (one that doesn't give the sdcard/0/0/0/0/0 issue I'm having now, and then flash a new ROM? I have some files on my phone, but all are still on my computer. I have a couple backups, but none that are stock and none that are particularly important. I suppose I could have a problem if the ROM I would install post sd-wipe did not work. I assume I could just put another ROM on my phone and try that one, then make a backup once I get something stable running.

Is there an issue with what I'm trying to do? Is there an easier solution? My sdcard/0/0/0/0 folder structure is 6 0's deep already.

It is possible to wipe the entire card and flash a new recovery, but IIRC the recovery isn't the issue (at least updated TWRP). 4.2 is what creates the new folder as part of the multiple profile feature in the update, and it caused a few headaches for me, too.

I actually just went ahead and wiped everything, myself, since I also had everything backed up on my computer. Once complete, I flashed a fresh 4.2 ROM, and everything has behaved reliably, since.

The big problem, at least for me, seemed to have been in any back-n-forth transitions between 4.1 and 4.2, and any apps which worked with locally stored data, such as Titanium Backup or others of that nature. It just became a mess.

So what is the best way to do this? Should I make sure I have a nandroid saved on my computer first, then via TWRP, format the SD card AND do a factory reset, effectively deleting everything on my phone?

Does it make sense to flash the newest version of TWRP first (the one that fixes the 4.2 sdcard/0/0/0 issue)?

Also, how will I get the ROM / gapps onto the phone? Don't I need to be booted up into the actual OS to move files from my comp to the phone?

Any sort of step by step would be helpful, I get nervous when doing stuff like this since I'm not an expert by any means.

I wouldn't feel confident telling you the best way to do it, but I'll share what I experienced. Hopefully others chime in, if they have more complete knowledge.

Yes-- prior to this, though, I copied all local data, including backups, to my desktop. From there, I performed a factory reset, clearing the local storage, though to my surprise, the ROM remained. From there, it was a process of booting back into the ROM and restoring everything, manually (which I preferred to do, anyway).

Yes, and it was the first action. The last thing I would need is a recovery-specific problem, during or post-process.

This is where I'd say hold off and wait for more experienced guidance. I had expected my ROM and Gapps to be wiped when doing the reset, but as this wasn't the case, I didn't have to take any further action. I would't want to point you down that road, if this wasn't intended or repeatable. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If the rom is there and installed and you rebbot the phone you should have everything including a browser...just go to the web page where gapps is and download it and reboot into recovery and install it. I had to do use this procdure this morning after I thought I had gapps on my car but didnt. Was no big deal. All this would be assuming your rom is there and gets installed properly.

This sd card bs is giving me fits. Basically Im not sure how to make an nandroid or where is would be..I get the following error:
no/00.sdcard/.android secure found. skipping backup
backing up cache....
no sd card found. Skipping backing up od sd-ext.
Generating mds sum
backup complete.

I was able to find what may be a backup in the 0/legacy folder. but I dont trust it.

btw.... xeonHD 4.2.1 with gaaps 4.2....phone work fine!! just no nandroid that I can see or a way to do one that should be a about a gb with all my stuff on the phone.
using clockwork rom manger 6.0.1.5

I guess this a a 4.2 rom issue?
thanks
