Official Vehicle Dock

A pic is worth a 1000 words..... *Borrowed* :p this pic to show my cars interior (this isn't my car- my interior is black). See how low the CD sits? That's how accidents happen. I don't want anything that has me looking down more than up which is why a CD mount is not practical for me.

Wow, I can see why that would be an issue for you. I wouldn't want to look at my phone at that angle either.

For anyone else interested in the Mountek, Meritline.com currently has it on sale for $16.99. Can't link, but search for Mountek MT5000 and apply coupon code MLCS10EN. Great price for this.

Wouldn't the CD mount make it very hard to operate the radio? Also wondering how safe it is to hang something off of the mouth of the player. They certainly weren't designed for that.

Thanks for the post. Yeah they have been teasing us for a while but the description sounds exactly like what I (and so many others) are looking for. Guess we will find out Monday if we have just been teased again.

Just checked the iBolt site and while Monday is still here I am still only teased.

It can work in other parts of the dash as well, where there are gaps in the interior. Granted, it's kind of a hit or miss which ones work and which ones don't, but I was able to find a part of the dash (crack between two separate parts) that actually worked for my parents. I had purchased this mount for them a while back and it was great, especially because they didn't really need a phone specific mount.

I'm hoping thus goes the same with Sprint as he only confirmed for AT&T and Verizon.

Can you guys please let me know what is so special about iBolt? I see a lot of buzz about it, are they a better quality than other stuff or easier to operate? It looks like a typical grip-style holder, similar to Arkon car mounts.

Got the Tetrax. Very small. Didn't expect the arms of the X to be a soft rubber, I expected more of a hard plastic. Easy to install. One of the two nubs to had poor adhesive and wouldn't stay stuck to the case. The second nub stuck on just fine. It does prevent the phone from laying flat on surfaces, but that's a small price to pay, as it works just as advertised when in the car. Seems perfectly solid, and I'm not worried it's going to fall off. The best part is if I ever change phones, I won't have to worry about getting a new vehicle dock. Just buy some new nubs and I'm off to the races in no time.

I've decided to go with a vent holder, which I've used on my past 10 or so phones without problems (blackberry, iphone, etc).

reasons I like the vent holder:

1. Simple to install and reliable mount - i've never had the mount move or drop my phones.
2. Can quickly remove the holder from the vent clips if you don't want that ugly bracket thing in the way.
3. Cheap!
4. Can hold your phone regardless of whether its in a case or naked.

Gonna go with either of these. Leaning toward the Arkon as I've used them in the past.

Here is my 2 cents worth of reasons for preferring the proposed iBolt:

It is phone specific not universal fit
Built in charging because it is a true dock not just a cradle holder
Mounting options allow me to easily get everything to connect it to a Pro Clip mount which is a big deal to me.
Works with most cases
Decent price for what it offers
Does not require any modifications to the phone
Proven performance with the S3

Now if they would only get it on the market so I could buy one for Note 2!

How do you see it as a "built in charging"?
What is the difference between that an your charger cable on the dash? YOu have to physically grab the cable and put it in the phone each time you dock, just like a non powered mount.

For one thing, once you connect the power it will automatically go to car mode. :)

Just like you said: the cable laying on the dash is the difference.

Personally I don't like loose cables lying around and I can hard wire it in and the plug is right there at the dock readily available. And it switches to the dock mode as a bonus benefit.

If you don't see that as an important difference it is ok with me buy and use what you like not what I see as better.

I also picked up the Tetrax but I am having an issue with it staying on the vent. I have cranked down on the tension dial as hard as I can (by hand) but the weight of the Note II has caused it to fall more than three times now.

I have also verified the vent isn't sliding down where gravity is helping to pull it off the vent.

This is kind of disappointing, it looks like it has promise but just won't hold.

I also made the mistake of using the shimmed disc first to mount on my case but that limited the amount of tension from the case pressing against the "X" rubber stabilizers and thus caused the phone to spin over time on the base from vibrations in the road.

In some cases, they have created dock and go setup where you can dock the phone and it had a built in micro usb charger like Motorola does, so no need to plug in. The docks are nice looking and also they've followed Motorola's model of having a integrated 3.5mm audio connection. That said, they haven't followed the same model for all their phone specific docks.

So the connector, which has to be wired externally anyway (either hardwired or patched from your cigarette lighter idapter), is part of the cradle/holder. But at the same time once it's no longer making a good contact - you have to replace the whole thing?

I agree, people choose whatever is more convenient for them to use. From my personal experience, its easier to wiggle micro USB chord connector to fit into the phone, rather than wiggle the phone to fit into a holder's connector especially since you have to do it in horizontal orientation. With cables laying around, its just a matter of how you manage them in the car. Once I get my micro-usb right angle adapter, I will post pictures of my setup using Arkon Mega Grip (which works perfectly). I actually heard a rumor they are going to release some new slim-grip system. So in my setup I have 2A usb charger, 6ft usb-to-micro_usb cable (from monoprice with 26 AWG power wires inside of that cable), and soon to be micro-usb right angle adapter (a few bucks from Amazon). If connector fails, I just replace the adapter. And a system like Arkon megagrip will allow me to connect any smart phone. Beside, having an external adapter gives me flexibility to use any case with my phone.

Didn't realize Mikael was posting on AndroidCentral also, and apparently the dock will be selling exclusively there and their amazon store initially at $39.99

iBOLT car-dock for Samsung Note 2 coming... - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

I think I am going to go forward with my next choice decision for a car dock I have had enough endless teasing for a plastic dock, worse than Apple.

This was added to Amazon today and is not $39.99, not eligible for free shipping or Amazon Prime, not available in December and says for HTC with no mention of Samsung Note 2.

So they have a dock (scheduled for Jan 7th release) for a phone that came out after the Note 2 for $45.

What happened to the Note 2 dock or have they just been blowing smoke to keep us waiting on them to eventually come up with one?

I'm going to make a guess: Because the DNA is smaller they probably were able to conjure one up with existing parts or maybe only needed 1 custom part. To make one for the Note 2 would probably require mostly building it from scratch.

As far as blowing smoke ... that might be.
I know if I were a manufacturer I would be rushing to get to market ASAP so I don't lose a crack at the 5 million who already have one. If I couldn't get it out as soon as I'd like, I'd be blowing smoke so people would wait and not buy a competitor's.

No hard facts here, just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions ;)
