Root Good file manager?

So, I'm looking to change my boot up animation/sound. I was reading the tutorial and it seems to be a pretty simple process. But you need a file manager, so what's a good one that is free?

I dont think you NEED it..
But i would highly highly recommend getting it. Wouldn't hurt anything.
And rather be safe than sorry.

I agree, monkeying around in the system can result in boot loop. Having cwm and a nandroid, will be the easiest way to bring it back. I recommend ES file explorer.

I used Root Explorer and like it a lot. I think it was the first app I purchased.

I used to use ES File explorer but they just added some new permission I thought was bogus so I removed it.

I also like root explorer. Total commander seemed a little awkward to use. Maybe it takes some getting use to?

It does. I was a Root Explorer fan for quite some time as well after moving on from ES. Android Police touted Total Commander, so I figured I'd give it a try. Quite handy, and quite powerful, and the dual-windows is one of those things that's obvious only after you see it.

See. I'm strange. I don't usually modify my running rom. Ill add things to a zip and reflash. Nothing like that new rom smell. For this I use zarchiver. For day to day use I use es or root browser

Figuring out how to mount /system as writable was a challenge in ES. It's a little too complex for its own good, but I still prefer it to all of the other free file managers that I've tried. Solid Explorer is the best I think, but it costs $2 or something for the full version.
