Help Texting dictionary seems to be forgetting basic words

I have the EVO V 4G phone and after using it for a several weeks after a factory reset the auto correct seems to be forgetting very basic words like "to" and "spell". I typed an entire dummy text with the most basic words I could think of and 9 out of 10 of them kept "saving" into the dictionary.

I don't understand what is causing this. it started this the first time several weeks after buying the phone. Then I rooted the phone and everything was back to working normal until today. Now it seems to have forgotten all the basic words let alone complicated words.

Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe the apps cache got corrupted, if you have a custom recovery you can try wiping the cache and dalvik cache to see if that helps.

That would be the menu I used to load the rom correct?

Yes, power and volume up, select recovery, I would make a nandroid backup, then wipe cache and dalvik cache, they'll both be recreated on boot, it'll take a few minutes longer on the first boot because of the rebuilding.

Will this factory reset everything again?
Before you do anything, make a nandroid backup in recovery.
No, this will just clear out the cache folders, the dalvik cache will recreate itself on the first boot and the app cache rebuilds itself as you use apps. Your apps are stored in the data folder, we're not touching that. All of your apps, settings and preferences will stay exactly the same. As a matter of fact, after you clear the cache and reboot if you're still having problems you should boot back into recovery and re flash your rom. Again you're just making sure that nothing is corrupt, it won't erase your files

Oh yeah, just a heads up, when using a custom rom and you ever need to do a factory reset always do it from recovery and not in the settings menu, resetting from inside Android usually causes boot loops.

For some reason the phone is just booting all the way up when I try this. I did battery out and it still boots all the way up.

Ok, maybe I haven't explained my exact symptom correctly. What is happening is when I go to type a text, I can see the suggestions above the entry window. Say I'm going type the word "text". As I'm typing the actual word in the text window will look completely different than what I'm attempting to type. The word "text" will show up all the way on the left in the suggested words and if I tap on the word "text" it will give me a notification that the phone has added that word to my dictionary.

Trouble is, these are basic words that the phone used to know. I want to know how I can restore them or if there's an addon that will make the phone smarter when it comes to word suggestions as I'm typing a text.

thanks for all the help!

I'm not sure because I personally use SwiftKey, but after clearing the app data on stock maybe it has to rebuild the dictionary. With the SwiftKey keyboard you can download up to 3 different languages for your dictionary. You might want to give it a try, been using it for almost 2 years now.

On your keyboard it's the bottom row, 2nd button to the left. I was having the same problem to include wifi automatically connecting and running my battery down. I did a factory reset last night and it fixed both problems. I'm not rooted. It's running like a well oiled clock though.
