Jellybean update "confirmed" to be in the works.

I just got off chat with Sprint CS because I was wondering if they had any details about a possible update. This is what I got!

Sprint: We received your information and will connect you with a Chat Specialist soon.

Something about this seems... off. Can't quite put my finger on it. Seems like he never actually said we are getting an update, it was more like a "here's what would happen if it were to get updated."
Sorry, guess I'm just cynical like that :P

Also the carrier is most certainly involved, all updates have to be tested and certified on the individual phone even if it was pushed to the 3d on Sprint means nothing as far as Virgin testing and certifying the update for the Evo V. Even though we're wholly owned by Sprint it's still a separate company and phone. All a 3d update would guarantee us is a quick port over to our phone.

Ray B: Please wait until the google over the air server push the software update to your phone. The engineers are working on it as heavy demands from the HTC customers are received. It may come out within the next 2 to 3 months.

That's why I put confirmed in quotes. The CS did confirm that engineers are working on the update.

No offense dude but most customer service reps wouldn't be able to even confirm what color our phone is.

I did think that was kind of odd when he said that it would be the same update considering that Virgin has different carrier settings. I would assume that if the update did come, it wouldn't be hard for them to quickly release it for Virgin because the only problem we really have when using a sprint rom is MMS and they could fix that quickly considering they know exactly what to do.

Not true, The FCC requires all ota's to be tested and certified before deployment. Just because it's available doesn't mean that Virgin will spend the time and money required. The GS2 is their new darling, just look at how much and how often this phone has been discounted and it becomes apparent that any future updates are doubtful. Especially when you have LTE on the horizon.

I understand that. I'm saying that it wouldn't be hard for them to take the Sprint version and change everything to make it fully compatible with Virgin. It would be all up to Virgin to do that, but I really am only hoping for a Sprint version so then somebody could change it up and make it fully usable with our devices.

flash is getting old anyways... i find that I can do virtually anything I have always done with my phone without flash...

From the end users point of view that's true but from a dev's end trying to write interactive animation using the current html5 tools is a nightmare.

I'm afraid OverByter really hit the nail on the head there. These customer service folks will say whatever it takes to get you off their phone line.

Im voting 'no chance' on the update. There is no $ reason for VM or HTC to push an update. The Evo is in its 'golden years' of service. There is no incentive to provide an update.

As OB stated, the CSRs are as close to clueless as you can get. I certainly would not hold anything they say as more than gossip.

I'm sorry bro but this just has to be fake. It's like he's trying to tell you an answer you actually like rather than the truth. It's also very fishy. :(

Yeah, I'd have to say little to zero chance of JB for us. But I'm actually okay with it. I didn't expect it. My phone works great, I like ICS enough to not be bothered.

had some time today and thought i would do a little test of my own...
here is the transcript:

Francis S.: Thanks for moving the chat window.
Francis S.: Yes, jellybean is recently launched to HTC EVo devices.
You: will it come directly to the htc evo 3d???
Francis S.: Yes, Sprint has started sending the push messages with the upgrade link.
You: ok thanks alot
Francis S.: Do not worry and let me put your line on priority .
Francis S.: So that you can get it within 24 hours
Francis S.: Will that be fine?
You: um sure
Francis S.: Done.
Francis S.: Were you satisfied with your chat experience with me during this chat session?

I believe that Sprint's CS are getting confused and this Jellybean update is for the HTC EVO 4G LTE not the EVO 3D or the HTC EVO V

You know, this is what I think of Sprint's CSR's:
