Easy Root Achieved!

There is a huge difference between an app using an security hole to gain root permissions on the device and any "normal" app permissions.

Most apps cannot gain root permissions on a non rooted device. That is a huge security hole, which is why its very rare that a situation like this arises. This exploit will have to be patched by Samsung soon.

I been trying to tell them that this method of root is far more dangerous than others.Like I said I work for an IT team and I understand all info is out there. The data base is made from medical records, death records, job applications, etc.Thats how Googling your name all this info is out there.Any smart person knows this.....but there is much more one can do with root access....and it ain't cause I want to know petty info like credit cards info or your addresses....trust me there is more you can do with the android operating system...

The exploit is there weather you use the app or not, and as such is not any more dangerous than any other way. The exploit is a security flaw in the OS, that app just uses it.

Codegerm

But the issue is any app can be coded to gain root access on those devices that have the security hole.

this isn't a problem when the user knows where Tue app is coming from and who developed it.

The problem is when the user doesn't know the app is using the exploit (or even if someone writes a root app like the one in the op and uses it for bad rather than good) and now has access to all of your information without the users consent. Some apps store passwords in plain text. Any root app that searches for it can find these.

I'm not saying the app listed is going to steal your data or use root for bad things, but be aware its possible and that's why android doesn't have root methods like this. Samsung will patch this with an update soon.

True, Samsung will most likely patch this soon, and then another way will be found. And so it goes...

Good or bad, many people like not having to have a pc to root. Doesn't really matter to me as my laptop is always close at hand.

I'm wanting to try this. Because I. Couldn't do it with odin. But I'm a little shy at the fact it could brick my phone I'm still stock fl22 has anyone else was able to completely root with no problems ?

I'm on Fl22. This root method is quite painless actually. The newer .apk also has the ability to kill the security hole too. Shame that it makes the camera non-functional but it's still pretty awesome anyways. It's easy enough to turn on and off and you don't need to reboot each time either. ^^.

Painless as in no problems at all? See the thing is I wanna root but if my phone happens to be the one with the curse of a brick
I'll be dropping breaks because my girlfriend will kill me lol she's for one against rooting.

-edit-
Ah f it I'll try it if i dont report any news then it means I'm dead d: peace all wish me luck

Exploits? (I read the conversation in regards to benefits, risks, and being Panicky) but aside from that Broken Camera ? Or even the possibility of breaking the camera ?

I am a NOOB so are we talking camera as in the thing that takes pic on the phone ? If theres ANY shot of that happening why would anyone use this method ? Again please excuse my lack of experience but I have been trying to find a sure way to root this phone since it has come out and keep putting it off because I dont want to run into a situation midway and be out of commision while figuring out how to fix it.

This was so much easier with the Prevail and Transform ultra. :-( lol

That's the only reason I haven't rooted this thing yet. It's not the fact that I don't know how or am scared to, it's because rooting this phone seems to make a lot of functions buggy or not work at all, granted there's fixes for pretty much every issue from rooting the phone, but then I have to weed through threads and posts to find files to fix said bugs and flash this and flash that, seems like a pain when I feel like doing it and I keep holding it off.

Every other Android that I've rooted never came with so many bugs :(

There is a sure way to root and its the sticky at the top of the guide, Im holding off because I just know if it comes with CWM or what to do after its rooted. I keep seeing AGAT but prefer CWM because Im familiar with it.

Most other forums have a very organized sticky at the top of the All Things Root Guide that makes it easier to navigate and find information. The more I go thru the forums on here the more confusing it is, too much conflicting info.

I am not experienced enough to know who is right and who is wrong and thats the problem, lol.

Also, if the Epic Touch 4G and SGS2 can share Roms and Rooting Methods would it be possible to maybe make a few changes on the Epic Touch 4G All things Root Sticky so it can be used on this forum and maybe that way more people will read and come to the SGS2 boost forum and perhaps that will help pump life to this forum ?

Thats going to have to be determined by members of the community. I don't have the phone, so I can't make judgement calls like that.

If someone has specific things they wish added to or removed from the guide I can assist with that.

You can start a thread if you'd like to try to draw attention to the outdated guide and call on experienced members to let us staff know what needs changed. :)
