Carousel switching of screens

Is it possible to switch screens like a carousel?

For example,
if I want to switch from the leftmost screen to the rightmost screen,
I would then go to the left one time instead of going to the right six times.

With the Android platform being open source,
would it be possible to contribute as a programmer
to make it possible?

Android is indeed open source, but the SenseUI is HTC's intellectual property and is not open source. Hacking their (HTC's) ROM though could be possible to make the homescreen act like that.

If you're on the leftmost screen, just press the Home button and then you only have to flick across three screens to get to the rightmost
