Guys, can't restore backup from recovery, stuck at start up

Can anybody help me?

I have backed up my phone by CWM recovery prior to trying out CM10.1. When I flashed CM, I got stuck in startup, so I reverted back to my backup. However, it seems my backup is screwed as well, because I am stuck at the start up samsung screen. (I've had the s2 for over a year flashing stuff, and this is the first and only time a recovery backup hasn't worked).

I'm guessing that the only way to boot up again is to re-root and reflash? Or is there any way I can restore my backup again?

Help would be greatly appreciated. It's midnight where I'm at and it would be a chore to go through rerooting and reflashing stockfirmware again (not to mention downloading all the apps and stuff).

Can you boot into recovery? It might be worth trying to restore your backup again, but I'd clear the caches, too (although that shouldn't matter with a nandroid)

Lunatic, Thanks for the quick reply. I can boot into both recovery and download mode, however I can't restore my backup. It says *restore complete but after I reboot the phone it stays stuck at the samsung boot up screen. I've tried this several times - wiping cache and dalvik, and also trying wiping data but it wouldnt boot up as well.

Any suggestions?

Try flashing the kernel you made the backup with then boot into recovery to attempt a restore.

Thanks hawker, I've already tried that (going back to the original kernel, and other kernels as well). I was on Siyahv.6b4 when I made the back up, but to no avail (MAYBE it's this version of siyah giving me the problem?), I've tried with philz, and with dorimanx and other versions of siyah but can't get my phone to get pass start up.

This is really really puzzling. And I think somewhere there's something corrupted on my phone.

Right now I'm flashing stock firmware and my phone has booted to start up however, there are processes which are stopping (android.media, internet, mtp) are not working...

Any insight to the problems would be much appreciated.
