try "data switch" in google play. the developer is hongu wang. its a widget and works great on my esteem.

Go to the market and install 2G-3G On Off.
This is a widget, so long press on desktop to add. After adding widget, tap the icon, select "Network Mode" and then select "CDMA Only". This will disable 4G and run 1x or 3G if available in your area. To re-enable 4G, tap the icon, select "Network Mode" and then select "LTE/CDMA". After changing network modes, it may take a while to switch.
